[ # ] Quarter-Final line up
July 16th, 2007

The All-Ireland quarter-final line up is now complete. The dates and venues should be sorted later today but in general it’s Kilkenny v Galway and Tipperary v Wexford next Sunday and then Waterford v Cork and Limerick v Clare the following weekend.

Waterford certainly drew the short straw, after being so impressive in winning the Munster title they now have to face Cork all over again. That has all the makings of a Cork revenge win and Waterford being left empty handed again on the All-Ireland stage.

Kilkenny should be able to see off Galway. Despite what I thought at the start of the year Ger Loughnane has failed to ignite anything in Galway, they’ve looked very ordinary at times indeed Loughnane’s efforts to turn them into a harder, stronger team may even be stifling their natural play.

Tipperary should be able to build on their great victory over Cork to see off Wexford. Wexford have been very poor this year and don’t even look capable of producing one of their once-a-year barn storming performances.

Limerick and Clare is very hard to call. Limerick need to win to get something out of the season but Clare have been ticking along nicely since their early defeat to Cork.

It would be great to see Waterford, Galway, Wexford and Limerick make the semi-finals but to me it looks more like a Cork, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Clare line up.

Update:
Sunday July 22nd
Wexford v Tipperary (2pm ,Croke Park)
Kilkenny v Galway (4pm, Croke Park)

Sunday July 29th
Limerick v Clare (2pm ,Croke Park)
Waterford v Cork (4pm, Croke Park)

Tipp have definitely recovered well from the defeat to Limerick. It’s impressive to beat a team like Cork without the Kelly brothers.

I’m a Limerick man who loves Hurling.. but upset over the games been held in Dublin

Limerick V Clare should be played Gaelic Grounds or Thurles on a Saturday
Cork V WaterFord should be played in Thurles maybe a Sunday

The Limerick Clare game should be played in the Gaelic Grounds or if Clare do not agree to that it should be palyed in Thurles. I know of about 100s of people who will not travel to Dublin because off the journey. Especially older people. I myself am not sure yet, but I think the GAA authorites are def getting this one wrong. I love hurling and am really disapointed that its on in Dublin…. If they want to promote the game its should be on the the Gaelic grounds … they would get 40,000 plus Limerick and Clare supporters. The Cork Waterford game should def be on in Thurles that would be a sell out of 50000…. A long with the time going to Dublin there is also the extra expense of getting there train, taxi etc….. please please please please change the venue for the sake of Hurling….I know this email will probably not be acted on…but I can always hope… :)

Unfortunately this isn’t an official GAA site Liam so there’s nothing I can do there :)

What you say makes sense though. That’s the problem with the hurling stronghold being limited to southern counties and the national stadium being in Dublin.
