[ # ] GPA votes in favour of strike action
November 9th, 2007

The and they have unanimously voted in favour of the strike.

Total membership balloted: 1881
Total ballots returned: 1348 (71.6%)

TOTAL IN FAVOUR OF PROPOSAL: 1281 (95.3%)
TOTAL AGAINST PROPOSAL: 58 (4.3%)
TOTAL BALLOTS SPOILED: 9 (0.67%)

They say that they’re now withdrawing players from all inter-county fixtures from the start of the 2008 season, although players are told to train as normal and they’re free to play with their clubs.

Almost 30% of ballots not returned is an interesting figure.
It’s possible then that rather than the 95/5 split from the final result it’s more of a 70/30 split.

Hopefully in the next month or two they can sort out some resolution. The leagues start in early Februrary and no one really wants the crazy prospect of GAA players not playing because they’re on strike.

They would have to go and steal the thunder of the major GAA news of the day - the release of the hurling game on the playsation. :)
