A Holy Day for Hat People
Milling around in the crowd at the Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival on Sunday, it did not take long to deduce that many had come for the same reason: the hats.
The parade, which started in the 1870s, is one of the very few fashion events where expertly crafted pieces coexist with amateur D.I.Y. creations and both are received with the same enthusiasm.
As in years past, the event brought a sea of color to a stretch of Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The hats on display included classic bonnets, futuristic pieces inspired by our digital age and plenty of flower crowns. A telltale sign of the most exciting styles? When children got in on the action and posed for photos with their new Easter fashion icons.
