How to make your wardrobe work extra hard this festive season

A CAPSULE wardrobe might seem daunting to fashion lovers but minimalism doesn't have to be miserable.

By cutting back to the basics, you're sure to save some cash and fall in love with some new key pieces. To help you get started, our Fashion team show you how to style one item three Fabulous ways, thanks to Next.

Leather trousers

Tracey Lea sayer, 49, Fashion Director

THESE leather trousers may be an investment piece, but you really get your money’s worth as they’re so versatile.

Give your leather pants a festive spin by teaming them with a sequin vest and heels. I love layering up pieces so have popped the vest over a white shirt. Just add cocktails!

Toughen up with an oversized jacket and a pair of chunky boots. This is a go-to look for me when I’m out in town on appointments. Comfy, but still cool.

You can take the girl out of the ’80s…! Black and white is a classic combo no matter what the occasion.

Sequin skirt

Nana Acheampong, 34, Celebrity Style Editor

WEARING sequins every day should so be a thing – and this skirt is just the ticket as it has both sparkle and tassels!

I’ve never worn a bomber in my life… until now! Cover it in sequins and I’m sold. I love that this co-ord can also be mixed and matched with other pieces.

Head-to-toe black can tick some serious style boxes. Pairing the sequin skirt with a pleather jacket and black cotton tee is definitely a vibe – and perfect for evening drinks, whether onscreen or in IRL.

Knitwear and sequins are total opposites, but they work so well together. This chunky roll neck is a great contrast to the skirt both in colour and texture, and is guaranteed to keep you cosy as well as glam.

  • The sequin skirt, £55
  • Bomber jacket, £48; bag, £26; shoes, £36
  • Faux-leather blazer, £55; top, £14; bag, £26; shoes, £56

The midi-dress

Jess Evans, 25, Junior Stylist

MY wardrobe is full of dresses – I can’t get enough of them, especially in autumnal checks, which are so on-trend right now!

This midi smock can be dressed up for party season or pared back for socially distanced walks, which is great when you’re on a budget.

Wrap up warm with a vintage-inspired faux-fur jacket. Keep the colours tonal by pulling out one shade from your hero piece – I’ve gone for khaki green – and complete with knee-high croc boots.

For me, accessories are the key for the perfect party look. Jazz up festive Zoom get-togethers with a jewelled headband, and if you’re heading out but don’t fancy heels, slip on this pair of super-comfy flats.

On down days, throw on chunky boots and a thick knit – this brown jumper goes really well with the check print. Perfect for when you need a break from jeans.

  • The midi-dress, £46
  • Coat, £65; bag, £22; boots, £60
  • Headband, £10; shoes, £34
  • Jumper, £34; boots, £62
