Woman reveals how to make KFC chicken in a few short steps – and says she ‘cracked the secret recipe’
LET'S be honest – one of the things we're most looking forward to when lockdown is lifted is having a celebratory KFC.
In the six weeks since the fast food chain temporarily closed their doors, we've tried to master the art of popcorn chicken and even tried to make a CORNFLAKE Zinger burger.

But right now, we're having serious cravings for KFC's secret blend of herbs and spices – which is where TikTok Poppy O'Toole has come to the rescue.
After a lot of hard work, the Michelin trained chef believes she's cracked the chain's top secret recipe – and you'll be surprised how simple it is.
Posting on her TikTok channel Poppy Cooks, the fast food fan – who previously showed us how to make McDonald's hash browns at home – joked that Colonel Saunders came to her in a dream with his recipe.
Poppy started by putting all her dry ingredients – including Coffee Mate, rosemary, and nutmeg – into a bowl and soaking her chicken thighs and drumsticks in some water.
What you need to make Poppy's KFC chicken:
- chicken thighs and drumsticks
- vegetable oil (for frying)
- 110g plain flour
- two tablespoons of salt
- three tablespoons of Coffee Mate
- two tablespoons of ground white pepper
- one tablespoon of ground coriander
- one tablespoon of ground cumin
- one tablespoon cinnamon
- one tablespoon of paprika
- one teaspoon of onion powder
- one teaspoon of garlic powder
- one teaspoon of dried thyme
- one teaspoon of dried rosemary
- one teaspoon of ground nutmeg
Next, she coated the chicken in the mixture and left them to soak up the spices for 10 minutes in the fridge.
She then poured a generous amount of vegetable oil into a frying pan and cooked the chicken on a medium heat.
Poppy explained: "When it's golden on one side, give it a flip – it looks absolutely delicious already – and wait until it's golden on the other side too."
In order to get the chicken nice and crispy like the real deal, Poppy then put the pieces on a baking tray and cooked for a further 20 minutes in the oven.
Showing off the finished results, Poppy said: "They look so good and delicious!"
Since posting the video earlier this month, her KFC tutorial has racked up almost 500 "likes".
Although Poppy's followers questioned her use of powdered milk, she replied: "Trust me!"
One fan wrote: "Thanks, I have all those ingredients and will try that tomorrow!"
