Adam Woodyatt has been seen back on the set of EastEnders for the first time since announcing his split from his wife.

The 52 year old confirmed he had separated from his wife Beverley Sharp in August 2019 after 22 years of marriage last week.

He has now headed back to Albert Square as the hit BBC One soap gears up to return to screens next month.

Bosses have confirmed that the show will begin airing again on 7 September, after being left off screens since 16 June.

Adam will reprise his role of Ian Beale and has now been seen filming for the upcoming episodes.

In the photograph, his character looks in shock as he speaks to Dotty Cotton, played by Milly Zero, in the local pub, The Queen Vic.

Precautions that the soap has taken amid the coronavirus pandemic, such as using a perspex screen to keep castmembers apart, can be seen.

Dotty is the only person in Walford that knows Ian played a hand in the death of his best friend Sharon Watts' son Dennis, who died at a boat party to celebrate the soap's 35 year anniversary.

It has been hinted that Dotty may expose Ian's secret as Adam is to take an extended break from the soap.

Show producer Kate Oates recently said: "Ian and Sharon have taken over the Vic and Sharon doesn't know Ian's role in Denny's death – that's an unexploded bomb.

"The irony is as she is defending him as he becomes increasingly unpopular in the Square and to members of his own family, which is an interesting situation," she continued to tell Digital Spy.

Off screen, Adam is going through his own personal difficulties after it was confirmed he has split from Beverley.

It is believed that Adam made the decision to end the relationship, but there is thought to be no third party involved.

A friend of the actor said: "Beverley was naturally very upset, as anybody would be in the circumstances, but these things happen and it's a straightforward separation.

"Nobody plans for these things and divorce is a difficult thing to get your head around but they have dealt with it quietly for several months and are now telling friends so it's less of a secret.

"They still get on well, and are keen to make sure they stay that way for the sake of their children – even though they are now grown up," the pal continued to tell The Sun Online.

A representative for the hit BBC soap confirmed the news, saying in a statement: "Beverley and Adam separated in August 2019 and we ask that the family's privacy is respected."
