Al Roker ‘Could Not Be More Thrilled’ Over Daughter’s Engagement

When sharing the happy news through social media, the ‘Today’ weather anchor admits that he has been waiting for Courtney to publicly announce her betrothal to Wesley Laga.

AceShowbizAl Roker is bringing happy news amid the coronavirus pandemic. On Sunday, April 12, the “Today” weather anchor announced on social media that his oldest daughter, Courtney Roker, has gotten engaged to her boyfriend, Wesley Laga, gushing that he “couldn’t be more thrilled” for the pair.

Sharing the news with fans and followers, the 65-year-old journalist uploaded a photo collage of his daughter with her now-fiance on Instagram. “I was waiting to get the ok,” he wrote in an accompanying caption of the post, “but now that it’s on her insta, we are so thrilled the @djweslaga asked @ouichefcourtney to marry him. #shesaidyes Could not be more thrilled for these two.”

Many have since congratulated Al for getting himself a future son-in-law. His fellow co-host Carson Daly exclaimed, “Lezzz goooooo!!!!!!” Meanwhile, “Today” West Coast anchor Natalie Morales wrote, “Amazing! Congrats to @ouichefcourtney and it’s so nice to have good news during this time,” and “Sunday Today” host Willie Geist replied, “Congrats, Courtney and Papa Al!”

Courtney herself made use of her own photo-sharing site to share photos taken after Wesley got down on one knee to ask her hand in marriage. Offering a close-up look at her diamond ring in one picture, she shared her thought on how coronavirus crisis affected Wes’ proposal plan. “Life sometimes takes you in a different direction for a reason,” she began recalling.

“We should have been in Paris, but with how the world is at the moment, it was placed on hold,” the bride-to-be shared. “Instead, Wes brought Paris to me with the music, lights and live cam shot of the Eiffel Tower on our TV. I said yes to my best friend last night and I am over the moon! Thank you Wes for making me your partner in crime for life. I love you.”

Courtney is Al’s first child with ex-wife Alice Bell. Back in 2019 ahead of Father’s Day, he talked about how his now-32-year-old daughter “was not your typical kid.” He explained, “She didn’t follow the traditional path of high school in four years, then college for four years, then get a job. That was all a bit of a struggle for her.”

“It wasn’t the path we’d expected for her, but at the end of the day it was better she made that choice and invested in it,” he continued. “Today she’s a successful chef at Google, managing one of their restaurants in the city, and she runs her own catering company too. I learned from her that you’ve got to listen to your kid. You know them, but they know themselves best, and you need to trust that.”
