Have I Got News for You guest host Alexander Armstrong, 51, has given fans an insight into his future fronting Pointless alongside his co-star Richard Osman, 50. The actor and presenter insisted that although he tends to get “tired” due to the BBC game show’s hectic filming schedule, he “never gets bored” of it.

Alexander shared the update in an exclusive interview with

When quizzed on whether he wants to continue hosting Pointless for many years to come, the star said: “I love Pointless, part of the genius of the show is that it’s always a different story.

“You have different people coming in, different contestants, the different questions.

“It’s always fresh and I’m always interested to know what’s going to happen – I get tired, I never get bored.

“And I get to spend the day with Richard which I love.”

Detailing his close friendship with his co-host, Alexander added: “He’s just enormously good company, it’s good fun.

“For as long as people enjoy watching it, we will love making it.”

Alexander also further explained the pressures that he and Richard face behind-the-scenes of the show.

The comedian admitted that although he would “love” to work with Richard more, he is nervous about “pushing” his friendship with the author, as they already spend a great deal of time together.

He divulged: “I’d love to [work with Richard outside of Pointless].

“I think in time we probably will, I wouldn’t want Richard to get bored of me.

“We spend a lot of the year together and the nice thing is we, genuinely, in nearly 12 years of Pointless, we have never had a cross word with each other.

“I dare say we spend an awful lot of time in each other’s company, it’s very intensive, quite high pressured work, the turn arounds are very quick and there are quite a lot of demands on us.

“We’ve got to be on the balls of our feet and yet we don’t rub each other up the wrong way, we get on perfectly well.

“So the only thing I’d be scared of, if we spend all of the year together, if we had some other project when Pointless wasn’t filming… two things would worry me.”

The actor went on to explain: “One, is that we might get bored of each other, which we haven’t yet so I don’t want to push it.

“And the second thing is, it might prevent Richard from writing more books and that would be a terrible thing, [his books are] unbelievable.”

It comes after Richard recently revealed that Hollywood director Steven Spielberg has bought the film rights to his debut novel, The Thursday Murder Club.

Discussing how proud he is of his pal, Alexander continued: “It’s just been so exciting, I’ve kind of witnessed the conception of his first book.

“He wouldn’t let me read it for ages and ages, but I loved it, I really loved it in fact, and I can’t wait for the next one, which comes out I think in April.”

Have I Got News for You airs tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
