Beyonce pleads with George Floyd protestors to remain ‘focused’

Beyonce has supported Black Lives Matter protestors marching the streets across the US, but has pleaded with them to remain ‘focused’.

The Single Ladies singer shared a poignant photo of thousands of protestors filling the streets of Minnesota, Minneapolis where George Floyd died last week.

Floyd, a black man, lost his life after being restrained by four police officers during a brutal arrest where one knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes. His death has sparked protests across the US, UK and Europe but there have also been some riots as anger continues to mount.

Alongside her Instagram post, Beyonce wrote: ‘The world came together for George Floyd. We know there is a long road ahead.

‘Let’s remain aligned and focused in our call for real justice.’

It was posted shortly after Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd’s neck, saw his charge upgraded to second-degree murder. Yesterday, the three other officers were also arrested and charged with crimes following calls for them to also be brought to justice.

It’s not the first time Bey, 38, has spoken out about Floyd’s tragic death as she posted an emotional video last week.

The singer stated: ‘We need justice for George Floyd. We all witnessed his murder in broad daylight. We’re broken and we’re disgusted.

‘We cannot normalise this pain. I’m not only speaking to people of colour. If you’re white, black, brown, or anything in between, I’m sure you feel hopeless by the racism going on in America right now.

‘No more senseless killings of human beings. No more seeing people of colour as less than human. We can no longer look away. George is all of our family in humanity. He’s family because he’s a fellow American.’

Bey added: ‘There have been too many times that we’ve seen these violent killings and no consequences. Yes, someone has been charged but justice is far from being achieved. Please sign the petition and continue to pray for peace, compassion, and healing for our country. Thank you so much.’

The Halo singer’s husband Jay Z has been particularly active in supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and this week took out a full page advert in several major US newspapers in tribute to Floyd.
