The 59-year-old is a darling of morning television, with her charming delivery of the BBC’s weather forecast updates a key figure in the much loved daily show. As a member of the ‘BBC Breakfast’ team since 1999, Carol has helped the programme achieve unprecedented success, with it becoming the most watched morning TV news show in the UK. But, following rumours of a rift between Carol and ex-colleague Steph – who quit ‘BBC Breakfast’ to join Channel 4 and have her own show – the former BBC star made it clear the weather presenter was still her close friend.

Earlier this year, Steph shared an adorable update on Twitter, which showed herself and her young baby watching Carol’s morning forecast in February.

She wrote: “My new favourite thing is watching Auntie Carol @carolkirkwood doing a personal weather forecast for my three-month-old daughter whilst sitting on her knee (the baby not me). #weatherwords #babychat.”

Steph gave birth in November, and although she is renowned for keeping her family life private, that hasn’t stopped her posting updates on the new arrival.

And those on Twitter were besotted with the latest update involving the BBC Breakfast favourite.

One wrote: “Aww….that is really cute! So do you think your little one will become a meteorologist?”

While another added: “I just did a little squee!”

Another wrote: “Come on Steph, we need footage of this!!”

However, in 2016, Carol was embroiled in controversy after she and then-BBC business journalist Steph reportedly fell out after the weather presenter was compared to a pig.

Dan Walker, who had just joined the ‘BBC Breakfast’ team, forced the pair to speak out regarding the spat by claiming “some people think you have fallen out”.

Responding to this, Steph said: “Oh no!”

Dan continued: “So we thought why don’t you hand over to Carol with the weather and make sure that it’s all very friendly and lovely.”

Steph then addressed the weather presenter by saying: “Carol, gorgeous one. You know I love you.

“I have to say, thank you for all the biscuit crumbs that were all over the set that I had to sweep up before I started.”

The incident which raised fears of a fallout came earlier that year after Carol was doing a live report from North Yorkshire.

While doing the segment, Carol was surrounded by a huge pack of animals, all cheekily nibbling at the presenter’s Wellington Boots.

Making light of the situation, Steph said: “This reminds me of when you’ve got a packet of biscuits in your pocket and you see Carol Kirkwood.”
