Cheryl is said to be “regretting” the distance that developed between herself and Sarah Harding when Girls Aloud split in the wake of her cancer battle, a source close to Sarah tells OK! online.

The girl band split in 2013 and while Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts remained close friends, Sarah is said to have felt she could only relate to Nadine Coyle.

Cheryl reportedly now wants to make up for lost time following Sarah’s breast diagnosis, which she revealed in August 2020.

Sarah, 39, recently admitted that doctors told her Christmas 2020 would probably be her last.

A source revealed to OK!: “This diagnosis – nothing else compares. Sarah is fighting for her life and all their silly squabbles they had in Girls Aloud just pale in significance. They’re not even comparable.

Earlier this week Sarah revealed that the girls had had a secret reunion last year following her diagnosis.

In her new book, Hear Me Out, Sarah opens up about how the five-some went to Soho Farmhouse and watched their 2006 documentary series Girls Aloud: Off The Record.

Cheryl herself has also opened up about how “hard” Sarah’s diagnosis hit her, and how the pair now regularly FaceTime and can often chat for hours.

The 37 year old writes in Sarah’s book: “The news of Sarah’s illness hit me so hard. Since that day, she’s been on my brain every waking hour – so much so that I feel like I want to be with her.

“To hear her talk about what might have been in her life, and what should have been destroys me.”

Cheryl adds that she now just wants to be “there for her in any way I can”.

A source says that Sarah will have appreciated how Cheryl has reconnected with her.

“Sarah will be touched that Cheryl has reached out. They’ll be praying she gets well,” the source adds.

“Sarah is a very sweet giving girl, she wants to be loved. She will definitely respond to Cheryl reaching out and making up for lost time.

“She needs all the support she can get at the minute, she’s going through really tough times."
