Chris Stapleton Reveals Upcoming Album Features Song About Las Vegas Shooting

Chris Stapleton revealed in a recent interview with “CBS This Morning” co-host Anthony Mason that his upcoming fourteenth studio album Starting Over, due out on November 13, will feature a song about the Las Vegas shooting that took place on Oct. 1, 2017.

Stapleton said he wrote the song, “Watch You Burn,” in the aftermath of the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas that killed 59 people.

The song begins with the lyrics, “Only a coward would pick up a gun, and shoot up a crowd trying to have fun.” Stapleton told “CBS This Morning” that writing the song was “therapeutic.”

He described the song as “a powerful number to me that conveys the sentiment, ‘Hey let’s cut the evil s— out…’ It’s a plea in some ways.”

Stapleton, who recorded much of the album at RCA Studio A in Nashville, is reportedly continuing his work with producer Dave Cobb. The 14-track record consists of 11 brand-new originals and three covers: John Fogerty‘s “Joy of My Life” and Guy Clark‘s “Old Friends” and “Worry B Gone.”

Stapleton released the album’s title track last week and admitted that he was worried about putting out music amid a global pandemic.

“I think everybody has doubts about everything they’re doing in every moment right now,” he said.
