Denise Welch slams 'unbelievable' Vogue Portugal cover for 'Madness' issue
Denise Welch has hit out at Vogue Portugal’s latest cover for their ‘Madness’ issue, branding it ‘unbelievable’.
The magazine has faced widespread backlash, with many left outraged at the cover and accusing it of glamorising mental illness.
The Loose Woman panelist, who has been open about her battle with depression, shared the cover image, which shows a woman being bathed by two nurses in what appears to be a pyschiatric hospital, and wrote: ‘Ok.
‘So out of the whole editorial team & picture desk @VoguePortugal, no one said ‘ I don’t think perpetuating the stereotype of a poorly girl in a ‘mental asylum’ is a good look for us. Unbelievable.’
Her followers supported her in the replies, with one writing: ‘It is images like this that frighten people and leads to them not seeking help when they have mental health problems.’
‘Wtf? This is really horrible. x’ another added, while one more said: ‘Oh my gosh that’s a disgrace, the madness issue?! You have got to be kidding?! Hugely offensive to everyone suffering with mental health myself included!’
