Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya Dead – Olympic Figure Skater Dies at 20
Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya, a pairs figure skater who competed for Australia in the 2018 Olympics, has sadly died at the young age of 20.
The young figure skater was born in Moscow, Russia, but became an Australian citizen in October 2017 and was a national champion there.
Ekaterina died on Friday (July 17) while in her native Russia, though her cause of death isn’t immediately known.
“The ISU is shocked by the news of Ekaterina‘s passing,” ISU President Jan Dijkema said in a statement on the organization’s website. “She was a talented pair skater and the Figure Skating community will miss her. We offer our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and teammates and mourn this tragic loss.”
Ekaterina competed with figure skater Harley Windsor and they won many competitions together. She retired from skating in January 2020 after reportedly suffering an epileptic seizure.
