Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shephard shares heartbreak over not being able to hug his mum after reunion
Ben Shephard emotionally shared his heartbreak over not being able to hug his mother after being reunited with her after the lockdown rules were eased.
The 45 year old TV presenter said it was “awful” not being able to touch his mother as they met for a game of golf recently.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday 27 May, Ben was tasked with asking guest Dr Mark Porter viewers' questions on the easing of the lockdown.
During the show, he said: “A question for Jenny here, who’s messaged into us…”

Ben then turned his attention to his mother and said: “And, also for my mum.
“I was able to see my mum socially distanced, we had a nice game of golf and it was lovely to see her.
“It was awful not being able to give her a hug though.”
Ben, who recently told celebrity guests to shut up on Tipping Point, said: “But, also my mum has lost a couple of teeth – they’ve fallen out during lockdown, she’s now lisping in quite a cute way.”
Ben’s co-presenter Charlotte Hawkins then joked: “Has she been eating too many sweets?”
To which Ben laughed and said: “If only.”
Like many of us, dad of two Ben has been separated from his mother amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Despite his upset at not being able to hug his mum, Ben recently did reveal his joy at seeing his GMB colleague Kate Garraway smile again as she appeared in a video cheering for the NHS, which she shared on her Instagram.
As he hosted GMB last week, Ben and Charlotte remarked on how happy Kate looked as she took part in the Clap For Carers event with her children, Darcey and William, while Kate's husband Derek remains in intensive care fighting the coronavirus.
Charlotte explained: “It's nice to see that see that she had a smile on her face.
“Everyone has got their fingers crossed, everyone is sending them so much love, they're all in our thoughts and prayers at the moment and keeping everything crossed that Derek will pull through and everything will be okay.”
Ben then joked: “She's still hoarding though, you can see she's still hoarding. She's got a traffic cone in her front drive.
