Jamie Redknapp has revealed that he was relentlessly teased by celebrity pals about the 'Strictly curse' following his divorce from model Louise Redknapp.

The ’Strictly curse’ is the phenomenon that sees celebrities and their dance partners on the hit show become romantically involved to the detriment of their off screen relationships.

Jamie was married to Louise for 18 years before they separated back in 2016, and their split came after her performance on the dance show but Louise insisted nothing happened between Kevin Clifton and herself.

However, in the former footballer’s first interview where he even slightly mentions the divorce he explained that he is used to being the butt of jokes about the marriage breakdown from pals including James Corden, Freddie Flintoff and Jack Whitehall.

He said to The Sunday Independent: "Of course, Freddie and I get some stick but there's nobody who gives it and can't take it.

“I’ve never really felt uncomfortable with a joke.

"I've been in football dressing-rooms since I was 11 years of age and there was always a lot of slagging.”

"I was in the Liverpool dressing-room with Ray Houghton, John Barnes and Ronnie Whelan. If you can handle that, you can handle A League of Their Own."

Jamie then candidly shared his thoughts about being in the public eye and the attention that it brings, admitting he is more worried for his sons; Charley, 16, and Beau, 11.

Jamie explained: "It's been part and parcel of my life since I was a teenager, so for me it's OK.

"What I find difficult is the way it affects the kids. They're impressionable, they're young and you want to protect them.

"Anyone in the public eye would say that about their kids but I suppose, at the same time, we use the press and do photoshoots and so on, so it works both ways."

He went on: "My kids make me emotional. Watching them grow up and be such good kids, that's everything to me. It makes everything worthwhile."
