Janette Manrara, 37, left her eight-year role as a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing after performing with 22-year-old HRVY as part of the 2020 series. She stepped down as a dancer to join Rylan Clark-Neal as his new co-host on Strictly: It Takes Two later this year.

Speaking on Steph’s Packed Lunch, HRVY said she had thought about whether or not she wanted to stay on the show last year.

He spilled: “She was kind of talking to me about it when we were together on the show about whether it would be her last one, or whether she was going to carry on.

“But, I’m so happy for her because she is so good at talking and has such a bubbly personality, so she’s going to smash it.”

When asked if he knew she was going to quit Strictly, he added: “No, I don’t think she was ever going to quit Strictly, but she was kind of umming and ahhing about what she wanted to do and I think that opportunity arose and she took it.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a represenative for Janette for comment.

The Strictly star’s new position was revealed after Zoe Ball announced her departure from the spin-off show.

The dancer addressed her decision in an Instagram Q&A with her fans shortly after.

Speaking to her 437,000 followers, she said her new presenting job is a “dream come true” but admitted it was “tough” to step down as a dancer on the show.

She added: “I’m not going to lie, I am slightly nervous about following in Zoe Ball’s shoes, she’s just so sensational.

“She was honestly incredible on the show, I was always in awe of her.”

Janette went on to urge her fans to continue to support her spouse Aljaz Skorjanec on the show.

Host Tess Daly said of Janette’s news: “We will miss you SO much on the Strictly dance floor!

“Thank you for so many wonderful memories on and off it!

Katya Jones commented: “It’s gonna be weird talking to you on the sofa.”

Laughing, Janette replied: “It’s not going to be weird because it’s like chatting to your friend Katya.

“It’s just like if me and you were hanging out at my flat and talking about the dance at the weekends.”

The dancer first joined Strictly in 2013 alongside husband Aljaz, who will return to the show this year.

She got to her furthest point in the competition with celebrity dancer partner HRVY last year.

The dancing duo made it to the final of the show, but missed out on the Glitterball trophy to Oti Mabuse and Bill Bailey.
