Metallica Producer Bob Rock Sells Rights To ‘Black Album’
Metallica producer Bob Rock has sold his rights to a catalog of 43 songs to Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited.
The catalog includes tracks from the metal band’s legendary album “Black Album,” which has sold more than 30 million copies, as well as songs he produced for Canadian singer Michael Bublé.
“I put my heart and soul into these recordings. I know how much Merck loves music, so it was an easy deal to put together,” said Rock, referring to Merck Mercuriadis, founder of The Family (Music) Limited and Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited.
In the opinion of Mercuriadis, “The breadth of Bob Rock’s enormous successes is almost impossible to match by any creator in the history of music.”
“From Metallica’s most famous Black Album to Michael Bublé’s Christmas, he has produced some of the biggest albums of all time that continue to be evergreen, year in and year out,” added the music industry veteran.
Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited is the first U.K. listed Investment Company offering investors exposure to songs and associated intellectual property rights.
In recent months it acquired 100 percent of Lindsey Buckingham‘s publishing rights, Jimmy Iovine‘s producing royalties as well as 50 percent publishing rights of Neil Young‘s entire song catalog.
