Naya Rivera seen boarding boat with son in CCTV footage as 911 call released
Police have released CCTV footage of Naya Rivera and her son arriving at Lake Piru, before the Glee star went missing.
Rivera, 33, is missing and presumed dead after her four-year-old son Josey was found alone on a pontoon boat on Lake Piru, California.
A search resumed on Thursday morning, with police confirming that their efforts have been switched into a search and recovery operation, rather than a search and rescue operation.
CCTV footage from the dock shows Naya’s black Mercedes G Wagon pulling into the lake’s nearly empty parking lot, and the actress emerges wearing white shorts and a small black packpack.
Rivera walks from the driver’s side of the car to the other to help Josey out of the car, with her son also wearing a backpack.
The Glee star is seen taking a large white bag from the car before she and Josey walked to the dock.
Rivera appears to approach the boat rental stand, before she and her son boarded a pontoon boat; they were the only two passengers aboard.
The security footage sees Rivera and Josey launching westward across the lake.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Sgt Kevin Donoghue said at a press conference: ‘We have recovered video evidence from the dock that shows Miss Rivera and her son being the only two people getting on board the boat.
‘We’ve had no indication after talking to her son that Miss Rivera made it to shore. So the focus of our search efforts are in the water at this time.’
The 911 call reporting Rivera as missing has also been released by police.
In a call made at around 4.40pm – over three and a half hours after Naya rented the boat – a female caller tells the dispatcher: ‘Lake Piru. The emergency is we have a missing person. We found a little girl in one of the boats by herself and her mom is nowhere to be found.’
Josey, who has long hair, was mistakenly identified as a girl in the call.
The four-year-old – Naya’s son with ex-husband Ryan Dorsey – told authorities that his mum did not get back into the boat after they both went swimming in the lake.
Josey is now with his 36-year-old father, with the actor pictured carrying his son out of the house of Naya’s sister Nickayla in Valencia, California, on Thursday.
While police remain hopeful, Rivera is presumed to be dead after going missing yesterday afternoon.
Officer Chris Dyer said: ’I’m hopeful at all times but I am realistic too about what’s going on out here and I hope we can find Ms Rivera in good health.
‘And if that ends up not being the case, I still hope we can find her and bring closure to anything that has happened to her.
‘The latest is that we’re switching efforts into a search and recovery operation. That doesn’t change anything in the efforts that we’re putting forth to locate her but it changes the title, in a sense.
‘We’re presuming that an accident happened, we’re presuming that she drowned in the lake. There are no signs of foul play, no signs that anything went wrong besides a tragic accident.’
Mr Dyer added: ‘The goal is still to bring Ms Rivera home to her family so they can have some closure.’
Naya is best known for playing cheerleader Santana Lopez in the hit musical comedy Glee between 2009 and 2015.
