Prince Harry has been told that his "defensive position" over Meghan Markle has "come back to bite him" by a royal expert.

The 36-year-old has defended his wife Meghan, 39, since the early days of their romance, issuing a public statement about abuse she was receiving just four months after they met.

But it has now been claimed by Duncan Larcombe that Meghan did "not turn out" how the public expected, and Harry's position on her early on in their relationship could cause problems in the future.

Duncan — who spent over 10 years working a royal editor at The Sun — has now spoken out on Harry's admiration for his now-wife.

Speaking on talkRADIO, Duncan said: "What we have seen with Harry, he fell in love with her straight away.

"In some ways, he is so head over heels in love with her that right from the start he took that very defensive position.

"Which I think has come back to bite him on the backside frankly," he continued to warn.

"The public was so pleased Meghan had turned up, the wedding was seen as a breath of fresh air.

"I had to almost remind myself that we called her Markle Sparkle, the woman that was going to change the royal family for the better."

He finished he statement with the final blow: "Meghan did not turn out like that."

Duncan's harsh words come as it was reported that the Palace is "a lot calmer" now Harry and Meghan have permanently stepped down as working royals.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as "senior" members of the Royal family in March 2020 to embark on a new life in Canada, before settling in California.

It was announced in February that the pair had decided to permanently step down from their roles, losing all royal patronages by doing so.

Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, have since stepped up to help out with royal duties, with it being said there is now a "calmer" atmosphere at the Palace.

A source told the Mirror: "One of the main issues with Harry and Meghan when they were part of the working family was their inability to understand how things worked.

"It's been a lot simpler without them kicking off over why they couldn't just do what they wanted. Things are a lot calmer."
