Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Died at 87, Granddaughter Reveals Her Final Wish
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Supreme Court Justice who was a champion of gender equality, has sadly passed away at the age of 87.
The Supreme Court announced that Ginsburg died due to complications from pancreatic cancer, according to NPR.
RBG‘s granddaughter Clara Spera says that she dictated this statement just days before her death: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
Ginsburg served on the Supreme Court for the past 27 years. She knew that the winner of the 2020 presidential election will be the person to decide her replacement on the Supreme Court and she wants to make sure Trump does not try nominating someone in the next seven weeks leading up to the election.
With Ginsburg‘s death, Chief Justice John Roberts is no longer the controlling vote in closely contested cases decided by the Supreme Court and there is no longer a clear majority for outcomes.
RBG‘s legal fight for women’s rights in the 1970s was the basis of the 2018 movie On the Basis of Sex, starring Felicity Jones.
We send our thoughts and condolences to all of Ginsburg‘s loved ones and supporters during this difficult time.
