“We’ve had the hard news that one baby hasn’t made it, but we are very excited and hopeful for the remaining baby to arrive this summer.”

The couple went on to announce the birth of their son Logan in a post to Instagram.

Helen captioned the post: “Steve and I will are excited to welcome Baby Boy Backshall to the world.

“We promise to make it a great one for you little man.”

Earlier this year in January, the couple announced the arrival of twins Kit Nathan Newlyn Backshall and Willow Bo Backshall.

The couple admitted to The Mirror that for the first month the pair named them ‘The Boy’ and ‘The Girl’.

Talking to the publication, Helen said: “When you start thinking about choosing baby names, particularly when you get two hours’ sleep at night, it becomes almost impossible.

“We thought that we had their names sorted.

“And then they came out, and the names didn’t fit. At all.

“Neither of them. And I don’t know why – I can’t explain why a baby that doesn’t yet have any character doesn’t suit the names.”

Springwatch 2020 will continue tonight on BBC Two at 8pm.
