Adele's new album 2020: Everything we know so far
Just when you thought Adele would remain off the radar until 2021, she went and graced us with the news of her Saturday Night Live hosting gig this weekend.
And naturally, the rumour mill is now abuzz that the Hello singer’s highly-anticipated fourth studio album will be upon us by Christmas.
Adele, 32, will return to the popular sketch show this Saturday to host alongside musical guest H.E.R, 12 years after her first appearance.
While she alluded to the fact that she won’t be performing, Showbiz 411 reported that Adele could drop her new album on October 30, a week after she makes her hosting debut on SNL.
It’s been five years since Adele released her last album, 25, giving fans enough time to put the pieces of the big puzzle together.
Basically, as summed up perfectly by one Twitter user: ‘You look at adele’s weight i look for potential clues for her next album we are not the same [sic].’
So here’s all we need to know about Adele’s new music…
Adele’s album release date
According to Showbiz 411, it could drop by surprise – Beyonce style – over Halloween weekend.
It would certainly make a whole lot of sense.
Q4 in the music industry – between September and December – is historically known to be the most lucrative window to drop new music due to the run up to Christmas. When physical CDs were a thing, it meant albums would be gifted as the perfect stocking fillers or presents and equal big bucks for the record label.
But more importantly, Adele has form for releasing in the winter months.
Her debut album 19 and the follow-up 21 were both delivered in January while her third, and most recent, 25, was released on November 20 2015.
The timing of Adele’s SNL announcement becomes even more eerie when taking in consideration that the now-iconic teaser for her big ballad Hello, aired during an X Factor advert break on October 18 2015.
So the SNL announcement came literally a year to the day of that teaser…
If the timing stacks up, it could also give Adele another opportunity to promote the music at the American Music Awards which are taking place on November 22.
