Amazon launches £140 ‘kid-proof’ tablet — and if it smashes they’ll replace it for free – The Sun

AMAZON has launched a “kid-proof” tablet — and if it does get smashed they will replace it for free.

The tech giant claims youngsters will be hard-pressed to wreck the £130 Fire HD 8 Kids Edition which features a heavy-duty case.

Bosses say the holder is “designed to protect against drops and bumps with a perfect fit in hands” for kids.

But they promise: “If they break it, we’ll replace it. No questions asked.”

The “worry-free guarantee” lasts for two years, say Amazon.

One parent with a daughter, six, and four-year-old son, said: “Kids have dropped it a few times, however because of the thickness of the case it made no dents or scratches at all.”

Another reviewer said the case “looks and feels good quality and can handle even hard impacts”. A third said it makes the tablet “very durable”, adding: “Dropped twice without a mark.”

The device — far cheaper than some rivals, such as Apple’s iPad which can cost more than £1,000 — comes with a year’s free Fire for Kids subscription.

It gives access to age-appropriate books, apps, games and educational material and is normally £3.99 a month — £1.99 for Prime members.

A cheaper version, the Fire HD 8, is £89.99. It does not have the case, child content or special replacement offer.

The Plus version, with more memory and wireless charging, costs £109.99.

All have an 8in high definition display and a faster brain and more battery life than last year’s models.

Eric Saarnio, from Amazon, said: “The all-new Fire HD 8 Kids Edition is built from the ground up to offer the Fire for Kids content kids love and the parental controls parents trust. It’s all wrapped in a colourful kid-proof case with a two-year worry-free guarantee.”
