Arsenal could return for Patrick van Aanholt in shock summer transfer after asking about Crystal Palace star in January
ARSENAL could launch a shock new bid for Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt.
Brighton's England centre-back Ben White is regarded as the Gunners' transfer priority in defence.
But football.london reporter Chris Wheatley suggests Holland star Van Aanholt is on the agenda as boss Mikel Arteta looks for cover out wide.
Arsenal asked about the 30-year-old in January and he is now a free agent.
It's claimed the Gunners are ideally seeking a younger alternative.
But Van Aanholt would offer a cheap alternative and great experience in English football.
The 17-cap ace has been with Palace since 2017 after three years with Sunderland.
And in fact he has spent all his senior career in England, having started at Chelsea from 2009-2014.
Van Aanholt himself revealed in March "all options are open" over his future.
He said: "I spoke with PSV in the winter last year. That was an option.
"I have not spoken with Ajax yet.

"I'm transfer-free in the summer… We'll see what will happen."
Meanwhile, White is reportedly keen on joining the Gunners.
But it's thought Arsenal might need to increase an initial bid of around £40million to nearer £50m.
