Baffled woman told to pay £13 for loo after racking up huge bill at Dublin bar

A young woman was left baffled after she was told to to pay €15 (£13) to use a bar's toilet – despite having just spent more than €120 (£102) on drinks.

The woman arrived at the Pygmalion bar in Dublin, Ireland, with her two friends on Sunday night and sat in the outdoor dining area.

The customer needed to use the bathroom after spending 45 minutes at the table, so went inside the pub to use the restroom.

However, according to Dublin Live, a member of staff would not allow her to enter and told her she had to pay €15 entry fee.

The unhappy customer was told she "needed a stamp", and would “need to pay €15”, if she wanted to get inside at all – despite telling staff she had a table outside that she would be returning to when finished in the restroom.

The annoyed customer told the Irish Mirror: “We spent over €120 on drinks for an hour and a half. I arrived late and did not receive an apparent stamp that was given when seated, which I had no clue I needed while sitting outside.”

The customer expressed how it was totally unfair, saying: “I wrote a review at the table as I felt this was totally unfair since it was a basic human right to use the toilet, it just left me shocked, it’s baffling.”

She added: “I needed to use the restroom so I went to go inside and they would not allow me inside at all to use the toilet even though I had paid a €120 bill and ordered more drinks afterwards.

“They told me if I wanted to enter the premises it would cost me €15 but I insisted that I was using the bathroom, then going back out to my table, but they wouldn’t listen to me.

"So I went back to my table, and asked my waitress if I could get a stamp, but she said she couldn’t do anything to help, she was lovely, and I understood she couldn’t do anything.”

The woman shared how she had repeated what the staff member said: “I repeated to the member of staff, 'You want me to use the bathroom and pay 15 euro', and they said yes.”

After returning to her table, the woman and her friends finished their drinks and made their way to a nearby pub that, despite being fully booked, allowed her to use their toilet.

The unhappy consumer and former hospitality worker said she felt staff were very dismissive and unprofessional, saying that they didn't seem to care.

She added: “We said we finished our drinks, paid up, and left since I could not use the bathroom. A nearby fully booked pub let me use their toilet. I've worked in hospitality before, and I felt like they were very dismissive about letting me in, denying the basic human right. “

In an online review, the bar responded to the criticism by admitting there had been "confusion" among the staff and offering to restore the stamps.

Daily Star has approached Pygmalion for comment on the incident.

The claim comes after a small party were also left furious this week after racking up a 'scandalous' bill at an Irish pub in just four hours.
