Cardi B’s grandmother watches WAP music video for first time
Cardi B’s grandmother finally took the plunge and watched the rapper’s WAP music video for the first time and, needless to say, she was a little taken aback by the saucy visuals.
Last Friday, Cardi and Megan Thee Stallion dropped their anticipated new single with Kylie Jenner, Rosalia and Normani making cameos in the music video.
However, the combination of the x-rated lyrics and sexualised music video caused quite a stir and there’s even a petition for Kylie’s appearance to be removed.
So it’s understandable that Cardi B’s grandmother might have waited a few days before watching the controversial video.
In a now-deleted clip on her Instagram, a relative of the Bodak Yellow rapper is filmed playing the WAP visuals for her grandmother who let out a series of ‘oohs’ and ‘ayes’ while watching the action unfold.
Although it’s not clear whether it was the snakes, tigers or watching Cardi and Megan twerk that shocked her the most.
Either way, her grandmother’s reaction was certainly endearing and Cardi wrote in the caption: ‘My grandma dum funny….. I miss her. I HATE COVID.’
The 27-year-old rapper has been unphased by the backlash the video has received from the likes of Carole Baskin and CeeLo Green.
But she did step in to defend Kylie, 23, whose cameo has irked many for some reason. More than 67,000 people have signed a petition to have her edited out of the official video.
One critic tweeted on Sunday: ‘Normani did ALL this and Kylie walked down the hall and opened a door.
‘If that’s not a perfect visual indication of Black women having to do the most and white women do the bare minimum to get somewhere, I don’t know what is.’
Cardi then replied in several tweets: ‘Normani is one of the best female artist that dances Like she dances her f***in ass off!Why would she open a door? Please tell me how that would make sense? The best part of the song is the beat &hook it what makes you want to shake your ass.
‘Not everything is about race.Theres issues out here in the world that it is about race that I preach all the time about. This is not about f***in race [sic].’
The rapper added: ‘Why did I put Kylie on my music video?she treated my sister and daughter so lovely at her kid bday party. Travis [Scott] and Set [Offset] are real close and Kris Jenner have giving me advice on certain things I ask for and her husband real cool with mine [sic].’
