Christine McGuinness celebrates 9th wedding anniversary with balloons and cake as Paddy forgets the date

Christine and Paddy McGuinness marked their 9th wedding anniversary in style while in lockdown.

The couple, who have a 14 year age gap, first met when Christine, 32, modelled at an event in Liverpool, and went on to date for three years before getting married at Thornton Manor in Wirral, in 2011.

It appears as though Christine surprised her husband, 46, with the display of heart-shaped balloons, a two-tier cake as well as mini cupcakes on the dining table, as he confessed he'd forgotten their special day.

The Take Me Out host, who share twins Penelope and Leo, seven, and daughter Felicity, four, sheepishly wrote alongside a snap of them inside their home: "13 years together, 9 years of marriage, 3 children and hardly any hair left.

"Obviously I forgot but @mrscmcguinness never does. Which she will be reminding me of all weekend! Happy Anniversary my love. Here’s to many more years of being reminded. XxXxX"

A large number nine floated in next to Paddy as he pointed his thumb mid-smile in the picture as Christine grinned and hugged him.

Christine was equally as gushing about her comedian husband, sharing a montage of pictures from their anniversary celebration.

"Happy anniversary 13 years together, 9 years married!!! Even though you totally forgot.. again! You are forgiven because I couldn’t do life without laughter and you give me so much! Happy anniversary my love @mcguinness.paddy"

In the video Christine pans around their dining area which is filled with red balloons, and miniature cupcakes on the table.

The custom-made cake has the first tier covered in gold sprinkles, a white tier with chocolate appearing to drip down the sides, and on the top a photo of Paddy and Christine in a gold frame.

It said on the base of the cake surrounded by chocolate covered strawberries, heart shaped biscuits and roses made out of icing: "Happy 9 Year Anniversary."

Despite Paddy's forgetfulness about their wedding anniversary the Christine spoke recently about how well they were getting on together in lockdown looking after their three children, who have all been diagnosed with autism.

She told Woman's Own magazine: "I thought we'd be killing each other – that we'd be arguing and bickering – but we're not….

"We're both putting in 50/50, so there's absolutely nothing for us to argue about. We're just trying to have a good time and we're laughing a lot!"

The Real Housewives of Cheshire star continued: "What we've realised is the stuff that we used to bicker about before was always work and who was having the kids, whereas now that's not happening, we're fine…

"'We're in the same boat for the first time in our lives, we're both completely equal, we're both stay-at-home parents right now. And that's it. No one's going anywhere."
