Clive Cox's Supremacy back on song and on course for Royal Ascot with stablemate Diligent Harry plays waiting game

TRAINER Clive Cox reckons his crack sprinter Supremacy is back on track for a shot at Royal Ascot glory.

His ace flopped on his return this season and threw his Commonwealth Cup bid into doubt.

But Cox is happy to forgive that run and reported his star returned a high white blood cell count following his reappearance, and nothing more serious.

The Lambourn handler said: “He performed well below expectations at Ascot, there’s no getting away from that.

“But we had him checked out and his white cells were high, far too high. So at least we had a reason for it.

“He seems back on track now though. Everything he’s shown as at home has pleased us and suggested he’s back to how we know he should be.”

Supremacy came into the season as the Commonwealth Cup favourite following a Group 1 win at two. But his below-par return means his Ascot odds vary from 7-1 to 14-1.

Sprint king Cox knows what it takes to strike in the race with his star Golden Horde coming out on top last year.

He added: “His target is now definitely the Commonwealth Cup and I see no reason why he wouldn’t make it there.

“Given what he achieved last season you’d hope he’d be a big player in this division for the rest of the season. He’s a seriously talented horse.”

Supremacy could be joined by stablemate Diligent Harry in the race, a general 10-1 chance for the sprint.

Cox said: “We’ve been trying to get a run into Diligent Harry but the weather just hasn’t been playing ball.

“We had him in at Haydock and Newbury recently but he needs good ground.

“He’s a hugely exciting prospect, not just for now but for the future too. He beat the Sandy Lane winner last time out and his form has been boosted a number of times.

“He’s only ever run on the all weather and we’d like to have got a run into him on turf before as it’s a different test.

“But he could go straight to the Commonwealth Cup now, it’s not final, but he could well go and we have a couple of weeks to decide.”
