Couple accidentally buy derelict home instead of flat in auction raise £17k

A fundraiser to help a young couple who accidentally bought a mansion instead of a flat has raised over £17,000.

Cal Hunter, 28, and his 26-year-old girlfriend Claire Segeren wanted to start a new life in Scotland before the mix-up at an auction.

Instead of buying a £30,000 which Cal thought was a two-bedroom fixer-upper, it turned out to be a 120-year-old derelict home.

The cost was only for one-third of the building, but the other owner sold their thirds into the couple who took on the challenge.

Despite its leaking roof, subsidence and rotten timbers, Cal, from Hull, and his Canadian partner fell in love with the villa anyway.

Now since getting the keys in 2018, the pair have been renovating it, reports Glasgow Live.

The couple is creating three living spaces, one-bedroom apartment upstairs and two two-bedroom apartments downstairs.

They've also started documenting their journey of the property on their blog "What Have We Dunoon?"

A fundraising page to get the couple has attracted more than £17,000 worth of donations from people all over the world.
