‘Genuine’ Sophie Wessex sheds ‘formal royal’ body language and ‘gets stuck in’ – expert

Queen and Royal Family listen to Salvation Army at Windsor

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 55, is married to the Queen’s youngest son Prince Edward, 56, and is a much-valued working member of the Firm. The Countess has been dubbed the Royal Family’s secret weapon for her low-key but effective approach to royal duty and showed off her “genuine” manner during her latest royal outing, a body language expert has claimed.

On Wednesday Sophie visited a Shooting Star Children’s Hospices’ charity shop in south-west London where she helped staff get the shop ready for the Christmas rush.

Photos of Sophie at the store show her mucking-in with volunteers.

Photos of the engagement were shared by a royal photographer on Twitter.

The tweet read: “Sophie Countess of Wessex, joined staff and volunteers today at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices’ Hampton Hill charity shop, to help them prepare for Christmas after the shop’s reopening last week.”

Body language expert and author Judi James analysed the new pictures of the Countess and shared her findings with Express.co.uk.

According to Judi, the Countess shows “genuine kindness and empathy” during the engagement.

Judi told Express.co.uk: “Sophie’s body language makes this look less like a royal visit and more like some help from a genuine volunteer.

“Sophie’s eye-gaze suggests she’s more engaged with her jobs here than worrying about the cameras and, as she did when she was baking scones or helping to clean up the beaches, she looks keen to roll up her sleeves and get stuck in as a helper rather than a visitor.”

Judi claimed Sophie’s “lack of vanity” comes across clearly in the pictures.

The analyst added: “Her approach looks very practical, with no sense of vanity or worries about her presentation in the way that she has tied her hair back loosely.

“Although the warmth of her personality shines through in the friendliest of eye-smiles, complete with a crescent eye-shape complete with crinkling to suggest high levels of approachability, kindness and empathy.”

Sophie and Edward were among senior royals to join the Queen at Windsor Castle on Tuesday night.

The royal reunion marked the end of Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William’s whistlestop tour of Britain to thank frontline workers across the UK.

Sophie and Edward’s presence at the event seemed to cement their status as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal replacements.

Following Meghan and Harry’s step down as senior royals at the start of the year Sophie and Edward have stepped up and filled the gap left by their departure.

Prince Edward is the only of the Queen’s children not to have divorced and Sophie is said to be her favourite daughter-in-law.

The Wessexes have two children – Lady Louise Windsor, 17, and James, Viscount Severn, 12.

They live at Bagshot Park in Surrey, the royal residence was a wedding gift to them from the Queen.

Sophie and Edward may visit the Queen and Prince Philip with their children over Christmas.

As rules are relaxed from December 23 to 27, Sophie and Edward could visit Windsor Castle.
