Competition on Strictly Come Dancing is hotting up, but HRVY and Maisie Smith have kept the atmosphere between them friendly. A body language expert watched the two celebrities during last night’s show and noticed a “gesture of support” between them that signifies their positive relationship.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Judi James said: “While his alleged love interest Maisie going through all kinds of hell after two dance-offs, we were finally shown a peek of some body language between the two youngest competitors, but only as HRVY rose to his feet in a gesture of support at the end of Maisie’s routine, throwing a stabbing finger of victory in the air to suggest he had her back in the face of a troubling two weeks.
“These two seem to have been selected as the potential ‘mating pandas’ of the series, i.e. a good deflection from any potential ‘curse’ relationships that might occur, thanks to their youth and single status.”
Maisie put paid to any potential romance between the two herself in an interview last week.
She told OK! Magazine: “It’s a weird one. We get along so well – there was an instant connection between us – and I knew straight away that we would be friends.
“Yes, there’s been ‘flanter’ [flirty banter], but I think it’s platonic.”
There is one person who HRVY is happy to share public displays of affection with though – his dance partner, Janette Manrara.
Judi continued: “HRVY’s only PDAs are with his partner Janette out there on the dance floor although and this is otherwise still a very mother/son style of relationship.
“The guy can act though, meaning they deliver sufficient signals of romance during their routines and this week it was despite the fact that they were dressed and were dancing like backing dancers in a Eurovision Song Contest.
“His outfit was hideous and their ‘All tens’ routine was not the type the voters usually enjoy.
“HRVY was getting the best character references from the judges though, with Shirley gushing about him being a ‘humble, wonderful human being’ as though he was competing for a Nobel Peace Prize rather than the glitterball trophy.”
One couple who had a surprising moment during their dance was Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse.
Explaining the moment, Judi said: “Last week Caroline was voted out after her embarrassing routine which involved licking her dance partner.
“Despite that clear warning of audience responses, Bill and Oti took the very brave step of inserting a moment of similar ‘look away from your screens’ body language tonight when Bill lunged at Oti and she fell backward with her head hanging in between his legs as he arched his back in a macho strut.
“It didn’t look like the Bill we love and for a man so obviously averse to anything more than some very gentlemanly body language displays with his partner, it clearly put him off his stride, forcing him make his first mistakes of the series.
“It also placed him close to the bottom of the leader board, meaning his personal popularity ratings will be a crucial factor if he’s going to avoid the dance-off.
“He’s still the man people are tuning in to watch though and he did break the habit of the past few weeks and place a very polite arm around Oti’s shoulders after their scores were read out.”
Ranvir Singh and Giovanni Pernice have found themselves in the spotlight since the show started thanks to their sizzling chemistry on the dancefloor – but does it imply something further off screen?
Judi analysed their dance, and said: “Was it telling that this couple moved from their displays of early-dating sexual passion during last week’s torrid routine to playing the role of a blissfully married couple this week, sharing body language signals of flirting, playfulness and a deeper, more established love?
“So far they have kept the stabilisers on in terms of their behaviour off the dance floor, but tonight they appeared to keep in role more after their American Smooth.
“Ranvir has shown signs of being made self-conscious by all the nudging hints about the curse of Strictly but this week she looked comfortable losing those inhibitions, cuddling Giovanni and even teasing him during the feedback so that she could throw her arms around his torso and gaze up into his face.”
