Hundreds queue outside Primark as it reopens 153 shops in England

HUNDREDS of Primark shoppers have been pictured queuing outside stores today as it reopens 153 shops in England.

Images show lines of customers waiting outside the chain's flagship store in Birmingham.

Some shoppers are said to have arrived as early as 6am to be one of the first through the doors when shops open.

Primark is welcoming back customers today, almost three months after all "non-essential" retailers were forced to shut in March due to the coronavirus crisis.

The fashion retailer is only reopening stores in England – there has been no word on when stores in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will follow.

Changes customers can expect inside Primark stores include fewer tills, no testers and new contactless returns.

Queue markers both outside and inside shops are also being used to help shoppers stay socially distanced.

"Non-essential" retailers were told to make their businesses “Covid-secure” before reopening.

This includes making sure people can keep a safe distance from one another, and staggering shift times for staff.

Primark closed all of its 189 UK branches on March 22.
