Jamie Otis Has Already Changed Her Baby's Name

Once a birth announcement is made, there’s no reason why someone shouldn’t change their baby’s name if they’re feeling regretful. After all, Goldie Hawn changed Kate Hudson’s name mid-route to the hospital! And this mom changed her baby’s name when she was 8 months old because of a TV show character. So, it’s not unusual that Married at First Sight stars Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner, who welcomed a baby boy on Wednesday, changed their baby’s name from Hayes Douglas to Hendrix Douglas on Sunday. Yes, baby name regret is a real thing! Here’s why they chose to change his name.

According to an announcement they made on their Instagram Live on Sunday evening, seeing their baby boy for the first time made them realize that he’s so not a Hayes. “The minute we had our son, the minute he came out, I looked at him — I mean, the first time I looked at him, I almost called him Hendrix,” the mom of two explained to viewers.

The reality TV show personality wanted to connect with her baby before he was born — so she and her husband chose “Hayes” because they liked the sound of it. (But it could also very well be because celebrities keep naming their kids Hayes!) Still, every parent knows that the second you meet your kid once they’re outside of the womb, your connection informs their name and not the other way around. “…We felt kind of pressured to make a decision on what his name was gonna be because I wanted to bond with him. When you have a baby inside you and you just call it ‘baby boy’ … So I was like, ‘Let’s decide, what are we naming our son?’” she said. Aside from liking the way “Hayes” sounded, the couple admitted that they don’t know why that was their first choice to begin with.

It’s wild to think just 3 days ago his whole body was INSIDE my belly.🤯🤰🏼👶🏼🌈⁣ ⁣ It is so amazing what a woman’s body can do! I mean, us women get one little sperm from a man & then we proceed to grow a tiny HUMAN inside us! …don’t even get me started on how strong we are to birth that tiny human — whether he’s pushed out or cut out, medicated or unmedicated — we are freakin superheroes!🦸🏼‍♀️ ⁣ ⁣ I pushed this little guy out in a tub of water right next to my bed in the middle of my bedroom. After I got him in my arms I got out of the tub with the placenta still inside me & attached to him, climbed up on my bed, delivered my placenta and got stitched up while my son snuggled on my chest.🤱🏻 I kinda felt like a bad-azz super mama for a hot second! 💪🏼 ⁣ ⁣ ….Until the fourth trimester hit me like a ton of bricks!😳 Ahh, the adrenaline soon ran out!😭 My vagina’s on fire, my butt feels like it exploded, and my nipples are back to being cracked and bleeding from nursing 🤷🏼‍♀️ (didn’t really expect this one since I nursed Gracie for a full year).🤪⁣ ⁣ Still, I wouldn’t change *any* of this journey. I feel so BLESSED to get to be a mommy again.🙏🏻 I don’t know what you think, but I def think the fourth trimester is the hardest trimester… physically, mentally, & emotionally! If anyone has tips to make it easier I’ll take ‘em! I’ve done this before but I’m wide open to learning/trying something new to heal faster!💪🏼⁣ ⁣ And total side note, but Doug and I have a huge announcement we want to share with you – our FRANS – first! We will be LIVE tomorrow right here on my Instagram at 7:30pm EST. Can’t wait to see you, share our news, and chat for a few minutes!💗⁣ ⁣ Another side note: that second pic Gracie came running up, kissed his foot, hugged me and then ran away 😭 Doug snapped the pic while I was saying “awwww!!!”🥰 She is such a sweetheart!☺️⁣

Ok, so why the name Hendrix then? Well, Otis explained that Hendrix is loosely connected to the name Jonathan — whom they named their unborn child before Otis had a miscarriage in 2016. “Long story short, it’s loosely tied to our angel baby Jonathan,” said Otis said of the name Hendrix. “The day that I was due, there was actually a rainbow … and I was like, ‘What are the chances there’s a rainbow on your due date?’ I haven’t seen a rainbow in I don’t know how long.”

The rainbow sighting was the biggest confirmation for them that this baby should be named Hendrix. But, their friend also happened to get them a blanket with the name “Hendrix” on it. One less monogrammed gift return for the couple is another blessing in disguise!

Here are more unique (and wacky) baby names we wish we thought of first.
