Kylie Jenner’s new side fringe is a serious 90s vibe and hair expert says the trend is here to stay

Something keeping us all on our toes during lockdown is Kylie Jenner’s ever changing hair, and we’re definitely digging the recent fix which sees the makeup-mogul rocking a side fringe.

Feeling nostalgic? That’s probably because, if you’re a 90s baby, the last time you saw hair like Kylie’s it was your reflection in the school mirror.

The 22 year old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, who recently flaunted her curves in a tiny bikini, showed off the throwback fringe in a recent Instagram snap which she shared with her 178 million followers.

Donning a colourful top with a snake running across the front, mum-of-one Kylie penned: “i’m pretty good at this makeup thing.”

The star can be seen grabbing hold of her long locks, with half of it up in a bun and the rest falling into a sweeping side fringe which the reality star is, unsurprisingly, rocking.

And it turns out 90s hairstyles are making a huge comeback, or at least they definitely will now that social media trendsetter Kylie has opted for various 90s niches.

Award-winning hairdresser Michael van Clarke, shared his thoughts on the rebirth of 90s hair trends with OK! Online.

He explained: “Its not a surprise that during lockdown we are seeing a revisit of the big 90s hair, no hairdressing appointments or weekly blowdries has forced many to grow out and embrace their natural hair.

“This has created longer fringes/layers around the face where the A-line cuts have grown out, creating a 'Rachel' or if you have a natural curl then a wave of Julia Roberts aka Pretty Woman or Kylie Minogue bouncy boufants will be emerging too.”

And, if you’re after Kylie’s new MSN Messenger-esque look, then it’s pretty easy to achieve from home.

Michael continued: “To get the Kylie J look find your preferred parting and then section the hair about a hair band size ear to ear. Comb this rest of your hair back behind the ears or put up into ponytail, pigtails or space buns.

“Keeping the parting, comb the fringe/layers forward, blowdry or use straightening irons to get the smooth look. Add a little finishing product I would suggest the 3 More Inches Magic Oil and then 10 second transformation. Separate the fringe sections to create the desired sweep of fringe.”

Instagram star Kylie is currently rocking chunky highlights too – another hair trend best associated with the 90s.

Kylie’s hair features chunky blonde highlights at the front, with light brown hair at the back, which the star wears in a long do.

And Kylie isn’t the only celeb who is rocking, and has rocked, this iconic chunky highlight look, which is set to be a huge 2020 trend.

Jeffree Star, of makeup and cosmetics fame, has also gone down the big highlights route and posed in a shot showcasing the caramel hairstyle whilst in lockdown.

Other household names who’ve tried out the style include Queen Bey herself, who wore the style in a loose beach wave form with chunky highlights framing her (oh, so beautiful) face.

Kylie’s older sister Kim Kardashian has also tried out the hairstyle before, wearing it in a more subtle manner and accompanying it with a choker – could that BE more 90s?
