Markus Golden officially signs tender in big Giants coup

Markus Golden made the only choice available.

Golden re-signed with the Giants on a one-year, $4.125 million contract Tuesday, after passing his physical. He reported to training camp Friday – a few days after the rest of his veteran teammates because of personal reasons – and needed three negative COVID-19 tests in a four-day span in order to enter the facilities.

The Giants placed a “May 5 tender” on Golden during free agency. It guaranteed him a contract offer but he was free to sign elsewhere until July 22. Once that deadline passed, his only options were to play for the Giants or sit out the season and return to unrestricted free agency.

Re-signing Golden, 29, at this stage and that price is a coup for the Giants. With 10 sacks last season, Golden became the first Giant since Jason Pierre-Paul in 2014 to reach double digits.
