Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to join A-list celebs at Vax Live super-gig

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to show face at one of the biggest showbiz events of the year, chairing the Vax Live super-gig in the US.

The sweethearts, who are currently expecting their second child, will act as campaign chairs at the charitable event, which has been put on by Global Citizen.

Meghan and Harry will be joining the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez at the extravaganza, with a series of dazzling performances set to raise money for global vaccinations.

“Over the past year, our world has experienced pain, loss, and struggle — together. Now we need to recover and heal — together,” said Harry and Meghan, addressing the event.

“We can’t leave anybody behind. We will all benefit, we will all be safer, when everyone, everywhere has equal access to the vaccine. We must pursue equitable vaccine distribution, and in that, restore faith in our common humanity. This mission couldn’t be more critical or important.”

Airing on May 8, the event will also feature appearances from Hollywood stars Ben Affleck, Chrissy Teigen, David Letterman, Gayle King and Jimmy Kimmel.

Global Citizen Canada confirmed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be taking part on Tuesday, announcing: "#VaxLive is almost here!

"On May 8, join us, @SelenaGomez, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, @JLo, @FooFighters, and more for a show with big names and an even bigger message: everyone, everywhere deserves access to a COVID-19 vaccine."

The event hopes to raise funding for vaccinations in countries where the vaccine has yet to be rolled out, fighting against the pandemic.

"It's time to end the pandemic and reunite the world," the trailer explains.

"But first everyone, everywhere needs confidence in the vaccine. Needs access to the vaccine."

Having stepped down from their Royal duties in January of last year, Meghan and Harry have since relocated to Los Angeles with their son Archie.

The couple, who married at Windsor Castle in 2018, has long been devoted to charity and activism, establishing their Archewell Inc organisation last October.

Describing their decision to set up the charity, Meghan and Harry told the Daily Telegraph: “Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of Arche – the Greek word meaning source of action.

"We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters."

With the motto "compassion in activism," the organisation's goal reads: "Through our non-profit work, as well as creative activations, we drive systemic cultural change across all communities, one act of compassion at a time."
