Mum who lost her son in supermarket shares how she found him using clever tip

A mum was distraught when she couldn’t find her son, who had wondered off in a supermarket.

But then she remembered a tip she had seen on TikTok, of blogger Jess Martini explaining the first thing you should do if your child is missing in an indoor setting.

The mum asked a friend to run to the front of the Kmart store where they had been shopping and give staff a specific description of the two-year-old.

She also ignored any embarrassment to immediately start shouting out the description.

This way, staff and customers can watch out for the child if he or she tries to leave.

The mum shared what happened on an Australian Facebook page, saying she shouted the words: ‘I’m missing a little boy, he’s wearing a yellow shirt and has brown hair.

‘He’s two years old and his name is Nathan.’

The mum, who searched frantically for the child, added: ‘Today I lost my two-year-old for 10 minutes in Kmart. It was the scariest 10 minutes of my life.’

Thankfully, the tip helped track down the toddler as a customer was able to find a child matching the description.

Blogger Jess explained in her TikTok that children can run off at any time and that it happens to even the ‘best’ parents.

But, crucially, parents need to be loud about their search, she advised.

‘To all parents out there, if your child goes missing, do not search in silence or just call out their name,’ said Jess. ‘Shout out loud and clear. Say they’re missing, give a description and repeat, repeat, repeat!’

Jess told parents to keep reciting what they’re saying, so other customers and passersby can help widen the search.

She added that the best case scenario would be someone finding the child immediately.

The worst case is that anyone who was trying to abduct the child would be alerted to the commotion caused by the missing child, making them likely to stop what they’re doing.

‘Everyone will be on alert, and if someone is trying to take off with your kid, it will decrease the chances of them getting away,’ she said.

Something to remember.
