Parents make incredible Avatar baby doll for just £15
With Christmas approaching fast, many parents will have spent a fortune on toys and gifts for their little ones.
Ben Hare, 28, and his fiancée Zara, 32, had a unique take on a popular present this year, and decided that instead of forking out for an expensive shop-bought version, they’d make their own.
Avatar babies (much like Grinch babies) have become the on-trend doll for little ones, with reborn sites offering hyper-realistic versions of their own.
However, these can come with a high price tag, or promise a high-spec doll that doesn’t look like the picture when it arrives.
Dad of four Ben told Metro.co.uk: ‘Sienna [his seven-year-old daughter] has been asking for an Avatar baby for some time. After a quick search we found they come with a £1000 price tag.
‘We couldn’t bring ourselves to spend this on a doll so tried to find cheaper online, but after some research we soon found that there are literally hundreds of scam sites out there – and they don’t send you the dolls they advertise.
‘We didn’t know which sites to trust and which sites we couldn’t.’
Zara, who runs her own home fragrance business called The Wicked Wax Shack, has a crafty streak, so decided to see how she could make her own using inexpensive materials and items they already had.
Self-employed courier Ben says: ‘We already had the doll, so for all other materials it cost £15 – and including drying time it took around four hours from start to finish.’
Zara painted the baby doll with a primer to help the paint stick, then adding a royal blue colour. The details were done with a dark blue colour and some white dots (with a splash of pink for the ears and nose).
Finally, a mohican made with faux fur was added to the top of the head for hair.
Sienna hasn’t seen her doll yet, with Ben saying: ;We haven’t given her the doll yet it is for Christmas. Can’t wait to see her reaction!’
Although it might be a bit late to recreate a doll like this yourself, if you’re stuck and have the materials it could be a great last-minute option.
Or, keep it in mind for future birthdays, saving the pennies and making a super unique present for your child.
