Tesco glitch adds double discount to meal deals plummeting price to just 4p

Savvy Brits are heading to Tesco to make the most of a system glitch which gives a double discount on meal deals.

The lunch option usually costs £3 for a sandwich or wrap, drink and snack.

Bargain hunters do their best to get the most bang for their buck by choosing expensive smoothies and other pricey options.

The supermarket’s tills are supposed to remove any cost of the separate items which takes the cost above £3.

However, yesterday it seems the computers were removing the amount twice.

It’s thought that the glitch is affecting larger stores, but not small ones.

And, the Sun reports that this morning bosses were still rushing to try and amend the error.

In a bid to stop shoppers taking advantage of the problem, some stores have banned the sale of sarnies.

But, numerous Twitter users are sharing their bargain meal deals – proving that some are slipping through the cracks.

One shopper, Melissa, said: “ Tesco meal deals are scanning through at £1 in my local Tesco and instead of doing anything the guy working was just telling everyone to treat themselves.

“What a legend.”

While another person bought Christmas sandwiches, Coke and some chicken satay sticks for just 71p.

The best deal showed that a shopper had chosen a £2.75 sandwich, some Monster Munch and a smoothie, but he paid just 4p.

The price plummeted because of the price of the smoothie – at £2.36.

This means the deal separately would have cost £5.96 so a discount of £2.96 would be applied.

When the discount was added again to the reduced £3 price, it left just pennies on the bill.

Some customers were unhappy that Tesco wouldn’t allow people to buy the fresh items while the error was ongoing.

He said: "So they're [the food is] just going to waste?"

A Tesco spokesperson told Daily Star Online: “We’ve now resolved a technical issue which affected some of our meal deals. We hope that those customers who received a little extra discount enjoyed their lunch.”
