Vicky Pattison on teen beauty fails and the power of makeup: I looked like a crazy giraffe!

She’s known for her super bubbly and positive personality, and now Vicky Pattison is taking on the beauty world. And though her signature look is no longer quite as loud as her MTV days, it’s clear you can take the girl out of Geordie Shore, but you can’t take Geordie Shore out of the girl.

“Obviously everyone knows me from bursting onto your screens with a very questionable, very aggressive tan, but I like to think I've mellowed over the years,” she tells OK!. “I'm definitely less radioactive now, but old habits die hard and I do love a nice golden glow!”

Like so many of us, the star was also on the Dream Matte Mousse hype in the noughties. “I’d have this bright, orangey face and a long white neck, like some sort of crazy giraffe. It was honestly awful, but I'm so pleased I had that.

“I feel it's a bit of a shame that kids these days and young lasses can't have that without it being chronicled on social media, you know? I feel like they’re missing out on a good bit of life."

Lower radioactivity levels aside, while she does like the occasional beauty splurge now, she’s certainly not forgotten her roots – citing a “three hundred pound” designer fragrance she fell in love with not long after winning I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2015.

“I remember thinking, ‘Is this who I am now?’ and really struggled with myself. I got so hooked on it, so for a couple of years after [the jungle] I was shelling out for that fragrance.

“Don’t get me wrong, if it's a birthday or something I love to treat myself, but I just can't justify it all year round. There is such a huge part of me that is still this little girl from Wallsend who’s like, you could f***ing feed a family for a month on that. So sometimes I treat myself and sometimes I’m realistic.”

It makes sense, then, that Vicky would launch a beauty brand that’s on the inexpensive side and that has something for everyone. No Filter, created with high street beauty giant Barry M, was made to make its wearers “feel beautiful and empowered in REAL life.”

“I feel really passionate about making something that helps women feel gorgeous and super confident,” she enthuses. “You know, chat to that boy in the bar! Ask for that pay rise! Whatever it helps you achieve. We know that slapping on a bit of war paint, putting on that lipstick, makes you feel better.”

It’s no surprise that on that basis, both Vicky and No Filter’s other co-creator, her friend and makeup artist Lo Dias, were kind of fussy about the end product.

“We kept going back if the consistencies weren’t right – we wanted it creamy, those colours popping – because we wanted everything exactly how we wanted it. I swear the guys at Barry M were tearing their hair out by the end, we have been really fussy. But it's because we thought about what we'd want to buy as the consumer, you know?”

On the affordable price tag she adds, “I just couldn't stand the thought of people being left out, so we tried to be super price conscious and really affordable.” Hear, hear!

Vicky’s top beauty picks

No Filter Eyeshadow Palette, £24.99 here

“There are so many different colours in here, whether you’re looking for an everyday look or you're going glam. There is a shade in there that will make any eye colour and any skin tone pop.”

No Filter Lip Kit in Nakey, £14.99 here

“I am trying to be a little bit more adventurous [with colours], but ultimately I am a very classic person. The nude lip, Nakey, is absolutely beautiful. We also have a lipstick shade called Red Carpet; I think for winter months there's nothing classier than a black and white or all black outfit and a real statement red lip.”

Nip+Fab Dragon’s Blood Fix Serum, £19.95 here

“You put this on after you've washed your face and it smells amazing, it makes your skin feel great. I don't know if it's a placebo effect, but I always feel like my skin is plumper the next day.”

West Barn Co Soap Brows, £15 here

“It wasn’t until I started using a makeup artist that I heard of Soap Brows. I love the way it makes your eyebrows look super defined and full. It may be a trend that’s on the way out, but I'm a big fan.”

Fudge Professional Everyday Blonde Damage Rewind Purple Shampoo, £15 here

"As everyone knows, I went blonde this year with the guys at Fudge and it was a big change as I was quite a dark brunette. My haircare routine has changed a lot; it's a lot more difficult when you're blonde. Everyday Blonde Damage Rewind basically helps keep a really ashy, quite cool tone to my hair rather than warm and brassy. I use the shampoo and conditioner for the colour every day."

Barry M Lip Rehab Nourishing Lip Mask, £4.99 here

“This is chock-full of avocado, it’s super nourishing. You can put it on overnight and your lips wake up feeling amazing, or you can wear it as a lip gloss.”
