Craig from Coronation Street's weight loss journey

As the show operates a reduced schedule, Coronation Street fans have been getting their Corrie fix via the show’s Youtube channel, where they release a weekly ‘Coronation Street Good News’ video every Friday.

And it’s not gone unnoticed that the host of the show, Colson Smith, who plays Craig Tinker on the soap, has recently changed his appearance.

Back in March, he revealed his weight loss in a picture on social media which showed him with his castmates Jack P Shepherd — who plays David Platt — and Sally Ann Matthews — aka Jenny Connor.

The caption read: ‘Family OUTING. #TRIC2020’

So, what do we know about his fitness regime and will his weight loss be written into the show?

What is Colson Smith’s fitness regime?

Since first revealing his weight loss in March, the actor has been documenting his exercise routine on social media as he gets fitter.

After one run in early May, he wrote: ‘#Bank Holiday run done 🤩

‘Feet up & some family time while staying at home now! Have a good un folks.’

Colson’s fellow Corrie star Brooke Vincent wrote in response: ‘CRAIG TINKERS GONNA HAVE GROUPEES VERY SOON.’

https://www.instagram.com/p/B-e-a08D-G4Colson hasn’t just been running for the love of it this whole time either – he’s also got a 5k run for charity under his belt.

Virtual 5K for a great cause this morning! #RunForDan,’ he recently wrote, next to a snap of himself giving a thumbs up.

‘Myself & my mates from @castleford_cricket_club join many people from the cricketing world who are putting on their running shoes in memory of York CC & Cheshire CCC Dan Woods.’

Last month, Colson told Lorraine Kelly on Good Morning Britain that his weight loss is through a combination of diet and excercise.

‘I sat down with Rob Brennan, who’s the life coach, and we worked through everything I could do to make it as easy as possible. So I have my breakfast and lunches delivered, and they’re still being delivered now, which means cooking I don’t have to think about, I can just eat.’

‘And in terms of the gym, I’ve kind of kept in touch with the gym I’ve been going to in Manchester because they’re putting on lots of training programmes on their app. I’ve done the odd Joe Wicks PE, and then it’s just making the most out of the situation,’ he said.

In the same appearance, Colson said that he’s keen to get back to work on Corrie, which he confirmed will be including coronavirus-related storylines.

‘It will be interesting,’ he said. ‘I think we’re all looking forward to, when we get the nod to say we’re going back, reading them scripts and reading how we show the guidelines, the social distancing.

‘How we show what we missed. It’s an exciting time, we’ve got a great team of writers behind us I’m sure they’re all working hard right now to make sure that when we do come back, we’re right and we’re ready.’

Will Colson’s weight loss feature in Corrie?

Colson’s new appearance has already been accounted for in Corrie, as in previous episodes, Craig shared that his ‘mates’ in the police force claimed that he can’t chase suspects anymore.

As a result, the character took it upon himself to start exercising more regularly.

Coronation Street fans convinced Geoff has deleted the evidence he abused Yasmeen – while she rots in prison – The Sun

CORONATION Street fans are convinced Geoff Metcalfe has deleted the secret camera footage that proves Yasmeen's innocence.

The sick abuser – who is played by actor Ian Bartholomew in the ITV soap – installed a secret camera in the house to further his control of Yasmeen, but it caught him threatening to kill her in the seconds before she stabbed him in self-defence.

Viewers have been waiting for the cameras to be discovered and for Geoff to be exposed but it still hasn't happened.

And now they fear he has already deleted the footage after being shown able to watch them on his phone.

Writing on Reddit, one said: "I want to have faith in the police investigation but if the cameras are simply streaming or if there are only certain clips/triggers that are recording and Geoff had been deleting all of it, then there is potentially no evidence except the final confrontation, since he presumably could not have deleted that from his hospital bed.

"Unless it was never recorded at all (streaming), or there is an automated file delete after a certain amount of time. The clip that was on the phone may (or may not?) still exist.

"So, I have been on tenterhooks thinking that Geoff has plenty of time to delete everything if Alya or the police don't find the camera and the police don't pay much attention to his cloud accounts."

Fans have been desperate for the storyline to end and for Yasmeen to be freed from prison where she's being held under charge of attempted murder.

But Corrie boss Iain MacLeod recently told The Sun Online that the storyline is set to run until Christmas at least.

He said: "The timelines have been shunted due to the lockdown but I think it's fair to imagine that it will be this year.

"What form that comeuppance is is in discussion. We wanted a redemptive ending for Yasmeen obviously and the toughest it's going to get for her is over the next months.

"It's towards the end of the year but the key thing is to impart the right message. For the sake of the people it has impacted we have to tell the right ending with some positivity."

Coronation Street boss reveals fed-up fans stop him in public to complain about ‘terrible’ storylines – The Sun

CORONATION Street boss Iain MacLeod reveals fed-up fans stop him in public to complain about "terrible" storylines.

The ITV soap's producer says random members of the public will stop him to give feedback on what they're seeing on their screens.

However, Iain admits the writing team has to stay strong, despite receiving criticism from both online and on the street.

"People are very quick to tell me their opinions. It’s a funny old job working in soap," he told the Daily Star.

"If you were in any other job, very rarely would a random member of the public come up to you and go, ‘You’re doing this wrong’ or, ‘That’s terrible.’ In most jobs you don’t get that instant feedback."

He added: "We get quite a bit online. I glance at it occasionally, but I think Twitter feedback tends to skew negative.

"You’ve got to retain your own sense of what you want to do and keep that clarity and vision. That’s what we’re trying to do.

"A good example of that would be the Battersbys. When they started there were large and noisy headlines about them being the most hated family in Britain and people were saying, ‘Get them off the cobbles’ and ‘They’re ruining Corrie.’

“But they became iconic and two of them are still on the show.”

Iain is the showrunner and took over from Kate Oates in 2018.

But it's not just people on the street: Corrie has been bombarded with Ofcom complaints recently as the ITV soap portrays the horrific coercive control abuse storyline between Yasmeen and Geoff.

It reached a high of 284 complaints after Yasmeen stabbed evil abuser Geoff in the neck with a wine bottle earlier this month.

The villain finally got his comeuppance after making wife Yasmeen's life hell for months – but the violent scenes left fans feeling sick to their stomachs.

Also, Yasmeen has now been arrested for attempted murder – so there may still be more complaints to come.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street will start filming again in June with 2m rule and clever camera angles – The Sun

EMMERDALE and Coronation Street will resume filming in June after bosses agreed an action plan to make working conditions safe.

The ITV soaps stopped shooting on March 23 after the UK went into lockdown — with both reduced to three shows a week.

⚠️ Read our coronavirus live blog for the latest news & updates

However, insiders confirmed to The Sun production would begin in a matter of weeks — as it emerged both were running out of new episodes.

A source said: “ITV are sure they’ve come up with a solution to keep everyone safe.

“Production is starting up again in June. Emmerdale is being used as the benchmark for safety guidelines as they have a lot of space and it’s the perfect location to put the social distancing measures into practice. Everyone will be adhering to social distancing and scenes will be filmed with smaller groups.

“The teams will be able to film in certain ways which will minimise distancing. The scripting teams are working on creating storylines with fewer characters.”

An ITV spokeswoman said: “The health and wellbeing of our people and those who work with us has always been our highest priority. We are in the final stages of working with others across the industry on a return-to-production protocol and we’re in active discussions with the Government on this.”

Emmerdale is set to run out of new episodes this month while Corrie has enough for June.

Earlier this month the network’s director Kevin Lygo said: “ITV without soaps is barely ITV.

It comes two weeks after we revealed the BBC was resuming work on EastEnders.

The BBC’s director of yesterday confirmed the report.

Coronation Street's Jayne Tunnicliffe appears on Keith Lemon's Curious Craft

Former Coronation Street star Jayne Tunnicliffe made an appearance on the Fantastical Factory of Curious Crafts and what a kick of nostalgia.

The actress played as Yana Lumb, Cilla Battersby-Brown’s bestie, between 2004 and 2007 and who knew she was so crafty?

She told host Keith Lemon: ‘I played Cilla Battersby-Brown’s best friend. She was called Yana. I had an affair with Les Battersby, well she did I didn’t.’

Way to walk down memory lane on a Sunday evening.

The first task had the UK’s most creative make some form of a puppet, and Jayne chose an adorable Wolpertinger (a German folklore creature).

However, the star was sent home after just the first round of the Channel 4 series that is co-hosted by Anna Richardson.

The brand new series is a huge change from normal night time TV and it’s exactly what host Keith wanted.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com, he explained: ‘It’s the polar opposite to what I’ve ever done before, so anyone watching going, “oh yeah let’s watch Keith Lemon get his d**k out and stuff”, it is not that.’

He continued: ‘It’s just a joyful, calming, lovely show. And I guess people will go, “I’m surprised by Keith Lemon there, he didn’t eff and jeff once did he?”

‘It’s a total different avenue for me, which I’ve really enjoyed.

‘I feel really lucky that I can do naughty late-night telly and do this at the same time. It’s a really nice feeling.’

He’s not wrong, it is a calming and lovely show. Plus, who doesn’t love arts and crafts?

The Fantastical Factory of Curious Craft airs Sunday at 8pm on Channel 4.

Coronation Street’s Leanne and Steve devastated as son Oliver is diagnosed with Mitochondrial disease – The Sun

CORONATION Street boss Iain MacLeod has revealed Oliver Battersby will be diagnosed with Mitochondrial disorder.

The toddler's parents Leanne Battersby and Steve McDonald – who are played by actors Jane Danson and Simon Gregson in the ITV soap – will be left devastated by the diagnosis.

Viewers have seen Oliver suffer a series of seizures over recent weeks and he has been clearly unwell over the last few months, but until now his parents had no idea how serious his illness was.

In the months to come Leanne and Steve will be forced to come to terms with the heartbreaking diagnosis which will leave Oliver with a life limiting illness for which there is currently no cure.

Corrie worked closely with The Lily Foundation, a charity that supports families and funds research into mitochondrial disease, to ensure the storyline closely reflects the experiences of families with children with mitochondrial disorders.

There is currently no cure for mitochondrial disease.

Soap boss Iain MacLeod said he hoped the storyline would raise awareness and ultimately funding for research into the disease in the hopes of finding a cure.

He said: "This is a story about a family coming to terms with the most difficult news anyone can face and the ways in which this strengthens and shatters relationships in unpredictable ways.

"Above all, we wanted to do justice to the stories of the many thousands of families who have to deal with diagnoses similar to Oliver’s, be it a mitochondrial disorder or another life-limiting condition.

"It is something that, as a society, we find difficult to talk about but which is all too common.

"The taboo around these illnesses can mean awareness is low, which means funding for research is low. Aside from telling a brilliant, moving and emotionally complex story, we really hope to draw attention to this subject to change this situation for the better."

Actress Jane said Leanne would be broken by the diagnosis: "I’ve also read a lot of literature about how families cope around their children’s diagnosis with life limiting illnesses, looking at the human elements to their stories amidst all the medical speak and hoping I can get it right.

What is mitochondrial disease?

Mitochondrial disease, or 'mito', is the term given to a group of medical disorders caused by mutations in mitochondria, the tiny organelles that are present in nearly every cell in our bodies and which generate about 90% of the energy we need to live.

Cells cannot function properly without healthy mitochondria, so when they fail the consequences can be serious and wide-ranging.

Mitochondrial diseases affect people in multiple ways, depending on which cells are affected.

This can make the condition hard to diagnose, as symptoms often resemble those of other serious illnesses.

For example, a person with mitochondrial disease may suffer from seizures, fatigue, vision and hearing loss, cognitive disabilities, respiratory problems or poor growth.

Any of the body's organs and systems can be affected including the brain, heart, lungs, gut, liver and skin.

If you are affected or are living with someone who has a mitochondrial disease, for information about the disease and the support available please visit www.thelilyfoundation.org.uk

"It is quite overwhelming, I’ve been so lucky to have so many stories with Leanne over the last 20 odd years but this one feels different, this one could really break her and it feels like it’s the one where I’ve got the most responsibility to get it right."

Liz Curtis, CEO and co-founder of The Lily Foundation said: "All of us at The Lily Foundation are excited to be working with Coronation Street on a storyline about a child with a mitochondrial disorder, and grateful to the show for highlighting an issue that affects hundreds of families in the UK.

"For everyone who has worked hard for years to raise awareness about mitochondrial diseases, in particular for families living with a diagnosis and those who have lost a child, having their story told on one of the nation's most popular soap operas is truly momentous news.

"There is currently no cure for mitochondrial diseases, so those diagnosed face an uncertain future.

"We have been impressed with how sensitively the show's researchers and script writers have handled this, listening to those who have been affected by the disease and the doctors who support them.

"We see this as a very positive step in our ongoing fight to raise awareness about mitochondrial diseases, support affected families and fund research to find a cure."

Coronation Street fans threaten to boycott soap if it redeems Geoff – as he discovers Yasmeen’s escape plan TONIGHT – The Sun

CORONATION Street fans have threatened to quit Corrie if Geoff is redeemed tonight.

The bully is set to discover that poor Yasmeen is trying to make her escape – and fans are sick of watching his evil ways.

Fans took to Twitter to vent their frustration about the torturous soap storyline which has left viewers screaming at their TV screens.

One viewer expressed on social media: "Time to boycott Coronation Street. The Geoff storyline is disturbing and disgraceful.

Another added: "Coronation Street viewers vow to boycott soap over Yasmeen and Geoff scenes. This storyline is so stupid and has been dragged out for so long it's becoming a right bore. Why do these soaps take so long to do a  storyline. People get fed up."

One avid fan vented: "Be glad to see the back of Geoff but I'm with everyone else if they make him look like the victim and drag it on and on I will be hacked off. Prob resulting in a Corrie boycott."

The actor Ian Bartholomew who plays Geoff told Lorraine about his children not being able to watch him playing Geoff because of his domestic abuse storyline.

He confessed: "I don’t like him [Geoff] very much at all. "

"They didn’t want to watch, they saw me lock Yasmeen into the box, the ‘magic box’ and they said, ‘No, can’t watch Dad doing that’.

"So they haven’t watched since then and I can’t blame them. It  must be quite difficult for them to watch their dad being unpleasant the whole time.”

Earlier in the week Coronation Street viewers complained to Ofcom over Geoff’s sick abuse of Yasmeen.

Fans were left horrified when he forced her into sex in a recent episode – despite her being in obvious pain.

The abuser – who is played by actor Ian Bartholomew in the ITV soap – has given his wife chlamydia after he cheated on her with a succession of prostitutes – but she is yet to know that.

Instead she has been left in considerable pain from it and Geoff’s manipulations have left her even weaker.

Coronation Street bosses 'panicking' at running out of episodes amid coronavirus

Coronation Street’s Beverley Callard has revealed soap bosses are ‘panicking like mad’ over the possibility of running out of episodes amid the coronavirus lockdown.

Production on the ITV soap was halted last month as a precaution, while the UK deals with the pandemic.

Bosses are currently airing the remaining episodes on a reduced schedule, with viewers given three instalments a week instead of the usual six.

And, speaking about the situation, Jennie McAlpine (Fiz Brown) and Beverley (Liz McDonald) opened up about what is happening behind the scenes.

During a chat on Radio 5 Live, Jennie explained: ‘I know our bosses are working really hard every day assessing the situation.’

Agreeing, her co-star continued: ‘And they’re panicking like mad, aren’t they? But, of course, you can’t not.

‘Even if it does come to an end and we run out of episodes, the writers will be going mad, they’ll be excited to create new storylines and everything.

‘Because we’ve got a massive team of writers, so they’ll keep it going.’

It’s not only viewers who are struggling to get used to Corrie’s new reduced schedule, as Jennie admitted there were times she settled down to get an update from the cobbles – only to find it wasn’t on.

‘I keep putting it on at half-eight, but then I think, “Oh no, Corrie‘s not on”,’ she added. ‘They’ve limited our Corrie output now, so there’s only three on instead of six.

‘I know people might be missing those three episodes but at least it means we’ve got a bit more time.’

It was recently confirmed that lockdown in the UK has been extended by three weeks, as the coronavirus death toll rises to more than 14,000.

And Coronation Street’s Colson Smith confirmed the soap will be introducing Covid-19 storylines when production is eventually restarted.

The Craig Tinker announced the news while appearing on Good Morning Britain, telling Lorraine Kelly he’s excited to get back to Weatherfield.

‘It will be interesting,’ he told the host. ‘I think we’re all looking forward to, when we get the nod to say we’re going back, reading them scripts and reading how we show the guidelines, the social distancing.

‘How we show from what we missed. It’s an exciting time, we’ve got a great team of writers behind us, I’m sure they’re all working hard right now to make sure that when we do come back, we’re right and we’re ready.’

We can’t wait to see what soap bosses come up with.

Coronation Street spoilers: Asha Alahan devastated as naked pictures of her are sent to her friends and family

ASHA Alahan’s life will be turned upside down next week in Coronation Street when naked pictures of her are sent to a group chat including her family and friends.

The upcoming storyline sees Asha attempt to impress boyfriend Corey with a naked picture on FaceTime that eventually ends up going viral.

Dev Alahan was horrified last year when he discovered his daughter Asha had been using skin-lightening cream.

Dev noticed that his daughter’s skin was red raw and bleeding and confronted her over what was going on.

The horrified father then ripped down the posters of Bollywood stars Asha had on her walls and told her nobody looked life that in real life.

And it looks like Dev and Asha are set for another father daughter showdown in upcoming scenes.

Next week’s episodes of Corrie will see Kelly encourage Asha to get back with Corey.

But when Amy disagrees, Kelly suspects she might be jealous.

Later, when Amy confirms she’s fallen out with Asha over Corey, Tracy suggests she should invite them round for pizza.

When Amy invites them round, Kelly watches Amy and Corey interact and tells Asha it’s obvious that Amy fancies Corey.

Later in the week, everyone gathers for Amy’s party and Asha tells Amy that she flashed her boobs for Corey on FaceTime.

Corey is scrolling through the pictures of Asha when he accidentally smashes one of Tracy’s new lamps.

Meanwhile, the pictures of Asha are sent onto the ‘party people’ group chat.

Asha is confused when she begins to notice her pals staring at her, but brushes the glances off.

But she realises something must be wrong when Dev calls at the party and grabs Asha and Aadi and drags them home.

Asha then finally looks at the messages on her phone and is horrified to see a naked image of herself on the group chat.

As Steve and Tracy head home, a police car pulls up.

Tracy and Steve order everyone out of their house and make Amy clean up.

Asha lies on her bed devastated as she realises her photos have gone viral.

Who sent the pictures and will they be brought to justice?

Coronation Street spoilers: Geoff Metcalfe fakes his own death after Yasmeen leaves him

GEOFF Metcalfe fakes his own death next week in Coronation Street after his wife Yasmeen Nazir finally plucks up the courage to leave him.

The chef – who is played by actress Shelley King in the ITV soap – has been coercively controlled by bully Geoff for over a year.

Corrie viewers have watch the bully isolate poor Yasmeen from her friends and family and slowly make her doubt her memories and judgements.

Viewers were sickened when he cooked her pet chicken Charlotte and watched her swallow a few mouthfuls before revealing the bird’s identity.

And the extent of Yasmeen’s manipulation became clear when she brushed off granddaughter Alya’s insistence that Geoff was abusing her.

A desperate Alya then got in contact with a police officer who had dirt on Geoff, but Yasmeen refused to listen to anyone trying to smear Geoff’s character.

Yasmeen then told Alya not to make her choose – because she wouldn’t like the consequences.

In episodes of Coronation Street set to air next week, things appear to be looking up for Yasmeen as she finally picks up her suitcase and marches out of the flat.

She finds her granddaughter and announces that she’s coming to the wedding – and that Alya was right about Geoff all along.

But Yasmeen’s bubble is quickly burst when she sees messages from Geoff suggesting he might take his own life.

When she heads back to the house to investigate, she’s horrified to find a smashed photo frame and drops of blood.

Geoff is nowhere to be seen – what has he done?

The Sun Online exclusively revealed earlier this month that Yasmeen is going to be charged with attempted murder after she finally plucks up the courage to leave her abuser.

Yasmeen will end up in court as she struggles to get people to believe Geoff has been abusing her for months.

The soap has worked with Women’s Aid on this storyline in order to raise awareness of coercive control.
