Who is Akshata Murthy? Rishi Sunak’s wife and daughter of billionaire N. R. Narayana Murthy – The Sun

AKSHATA Murthy is wife to UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

Rishi Sunak and Akshata married back in 2009.  She is also the daughter of Indian billionaire N.R Narayana Murthy – and believes we "live in a materialistic society". Here's what else we know about her family life.

Who is Rishi Sunak wife Akshata Murthy?

Rishi Sunak, 40, tied the knot with Akshata Murthy in 2009, in a two-day wedding in Bangalore, after the pair met at Stanford University.

The couple have two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka.

Ms Murthy runs fashion label Akshata Designs and is also a director of a venture capital firm founded by her dad in 2010.

She is the daughter of the sixth richest man in India, billionaire N.R Narayana Murthy, who is co-founder of Infosys, an IT company.

The Times of India says her father is "one of India's top entrepreneurs".

Akshata used to work in finance and marketing.

But she turned to fashion design, working with artists in isolated villages in India.

Akshata loved clothes as a child – a penchant that baffled her "no-nonsense engineer mother".

She told Vogue India in 2011: "I'm about the story behind a particular garment, its authenticity, craftsmanship and protecting a rich heritage."

Akshata was also quoted saying: "I believe we live in a materialistic society, and over the last few decades it has become easier to sell products to a wide audience, given the advent of globilisation."

The Times reported in February 2020 that she has a stake in her dad's IT firm that is reportedly worth £185million.

The couple are understood to own "at least four properties", the publication says, including a five-bedroom mews house in Kensington, valued at about £7million.

Cop put on leave after video shows him with hands around suspect’s neck and shouting in his face – The Sun

A COP has been put on leave after video surfaced showed him with hands around a suspect's neck and shouting in his face on Friday.

Myron Smith was identified as the cop in the video, the The Jacksonville Police Department told the Jackson Free Press.

Video surfaced showing the cop holding a young man's throat as he made gagging noises.

"Make me! Make me! I said make me!" the Mississippi police officer can be seen angrily shouting at the young man.

The man's back was up against a car, and the cop had his hands around the back of the man's neck.

Another woman stood near the two trying to de-escalate the situation as the cop and the man struggled.

"Sir!" the woman said to the cop, as she tried to use her hand to break away the officer's hold on the man.

"Get of me! Get off me! Get off me! I said get off me!" the officer shouted at the woman.

The officer kept his hands on the young man's neck.

The camera moves closer, and a woman then yells, "He can't breathe! He is not able to breathe! He is shaking sir! He can't breathe!"

In another clip, the camera moves closer, and the young man is seen trying to move the officer's hands off the front of his neck.

"You're killing him, he can't breathe!" another bystander yells at the cop.

The cop then responds that he's not choking the man.

"Ma'am, do you see my hands?" the cop asks. "I am not even choking him. Look where my hands are."

The cop continues to angrily yell at the young man, as he has his hands around his neck.

"What should you have done when I told you to leave?" the cop questioned.

"I can't breathe, man," the young man tells the cop.

The cop then yelled at the bystanders: "Leave!"

Toward the very end of the video, the cop appears to release his hands from the young man's neck, and he rolls off the car.

Officer Sam Brown, a spokesperson with the police department, told the Jackson Free Press the officer was identified as Myron Smith.

"When the video surfaced, it got to Chief James Davis, and he immediately placed (Smith) on administrative leave and turned it over him to Internal Affairs,” Brown said.

"They were in a struggle, a scuffle," Davis told the Clarion Ledger of the incident.

Davis added that the department is piecing together all the events.

He added that no arrests were made in the incident, but a report was written up.

Davis did not elaborate on what was included in the report, but he said the department is not taking misdemeanor charges lightly amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

News of the officer being placed on leave came amid ongoing protests over the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man.

Video emerged of a white cop kneeling on Floyd, as he said multiple times he could not breathe.

The cop did not move his knee, and Floyd became motionless.

He died after being rushed to the hospital.

Former Miss Universe New Zealand Finalist Amber-Lee Friis Dead At 23

Amber-Lee Friis, the beauty queen who went on to become a finalist in the 2018 Miss Universe New Zealand pageant, passed away on Monday at only 23 years old.

The sad news was confirmed by the boutique talent agency that represented her, The Talent Tree, who wrote in a Facebook post:

“It is with immense sadness we acknowledge the sudden passing of a beautiful and talented Wahine Amber-lee Friis. Amber-Lee was one of our original Models for The Talent Tree and a finalist in 2018 Miss Universe NZ (Miss World New Zealand). Our sincere aroha and condolences to Amber-Lee’s family and friends. R.I.P beautiful lady.”

What a terrible and untimely loss for the beauty community and Friis’ family. She was way too young for her life to be cut short so soon.

At this time, very few details about the cause of her death are known. However, in a statement shared with People, the New Zealand Police Department confirmed they responded to a “sudden death” call on May 18 and that the death had been referred to the coroner. The Daily Mail has since reported her passing as a suicide.

Back when she ran for the Miss Universe NZ title, the former pageant competitor told a local outlet called Stuff about how she struggled with self-confidence for years before reaching a turning point and deciding to pursue pageantry:

“I remember sitting in my room one night and thinking how hard life could be. At a young age you feel the world is weighing on your shoulders. I was like a lost sheep before I started writing down goals and started focusing on what I wanted to do. I felt stuck and helpless. No one ever has to feel that way.”

Ugh. How sad…

Amber-Lee is remembered fondly by those who knew and worked with her including CEO of Miss World New Zealand, Nigel Godfrey, who described her as “a force to be reckoned with” in an emotional Facebook tribute post on Tuesday. He wrote, in part:

“She was feisty, definitely took no prisoners, but she was a beautiful soul and you 100% knew what you were getting. She was genuine, honest and she had an energy few others possess, her heart was most definitely in the right place. We liked and respected her and were very proud to call her a friend, long after the competition had finished.”

“Amber Lee turned her life, and indeed her experience with us around, and into an incredibly positive force for good. In the years since she has been loyal and supportive and we value that above anything. Tragically she passed away yesterday, the world is a lesser place without her in it,” Nigel continued. “She had a great deal more to give and it is a dreadful tragedy that she won’t be here to realize her unlimited potential. RIP Amber Lee you have left us far, far too soon.”

The official account for Miss World New Zealand also wrote on its FB page:

“Our sincerest condolences to the friends and whānau of Amber-lee Friis, whom we have just learned from The Talent Tree has passed away. Continue shining brightly, Amber-lee, just as we remembered you.”

Very, very sad, indeed.

R.I.P., Amber-Lee.

Woman wears inflatable hippo suit to safely hug mother in nursing home

Another casualty of the coronavirus: hugs.

With abundant fear about coming into close contact with elderly loved ones, hugging has run afoul of proper social-distancing and common-sense precautions — especially at coronavirus-stricken nursing homes. But that’s not stopping some relatives from concocting creative ways to hug Nana safely.

A daughter found a heartwarming way to safely hug her mom, a resident at Fox Trails Senior Living Home in Stephens City, Virginia — by wearing an inflatable hippo costume, complete with a pink tutu.

Footage posted to Twitter May 13 shows the grandma at the entrance of the facility, receiving a hug from her daughter in the hippo costume.

“This is wonderful!” the elder woman exclaims. The video’s narrator gushes, “My mother-in-law hugging my grandmother in an inflatable hippo suit wearing a tutu is the content you needed today. Her nursing home is letting family members hug each other in these sterilized suits.”

Twitter swooned over the adorable get up — and tender moment between mother and daughter separated — at least physically — over COVID-19.

“This is pretty great. And also something we will look at in ten years and be like ‘was this real life??’ ”

“Very sweet,” wrote @replikate, while @bellastef gushed, “I love this …. bringing a little tear. How amazing is this nursing home to get creative! Thanks for sharing.”

It’s far from the only creative alternative to skin-on-skin contact with a vulnerable loved one. UK grandson-of-the-year Antony Cauvin, 29 circumvented safety concerns for his beloved grandmother by fashioning a “cuddle curtain,” which allowed the two to embrace safely.

“When you’ve known someone all your life, to be able to hug that person again … it brought a tear to everybody’s eye,” he said. Other families have taken to calling their protective barrier iterations “hug shields.”

Man who filmed Ahmaud Arbery shooting took lie detector test: attorney

The attorney for the man who shot the video of black jogger Ahmaud Arbery’s shooting death said his client has taken a voluntary lie detector test that confirmed he was not involved in the slaying, according to reports.

“Contrary to speculation, the polygraph examination confirms that on Feb. 23 2020, the day of the shooting, William ‘Roddie’ Bryan did not have any conversation with either Gregory or Travis McMichael prior to the shooting,” Kevin Gough said Monday night, referring to the father and son charged with the murder, Action News Jax reported.

“Nor did William ‘Roddie’ Bryan have any conversation with anyone else that day prior to the shooting about criminal activity in the neighborhood,” he added during a news conference at the Glynn County Courthouse.

Gough said the results of the polygraph, which Bryan took voluntarily, have been shared with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The attorney noted the test is not considered admissible in court but does show that Bryan was unarmed at the time of the shooting, did not have any conversation with the suspects before the shooting and was unaware of any plan to take a life, according to First Coast News.

Bryan began recording the footage shortly before Gregory, 64, and Travis, 34, stopped Arbery with their truck and confronted him as he ran down Holmes Road in Brunswick, Georgia, on Feb. 23 during what his family says was a jog .

“Without his video there would be no case,” Gough said.

Police reports show Bryan – who has always insisted he was just a good Samaritan — tried to block Arbery himself while the 25-year-old was running down Burford Drive, the news outlet reported.

But Gough said his client was just a witness and not a “vigilante,” a characterization the attorney said was being perpetuated by Arbery’s family and its legal counsel.

The attorney also said Bryan has lost his job, received death threats because of the video and has been in hiding along with his fiancée.

“Mr. Bryan is not your enemy,” Gough said, according to CNN. “Please stop, if not for the sake of my client’s family, then for the sake of the Arbery family and the cause you fight for.”

He added: “Killing off the star witness for the prosecution will not help bring Ahmaud’s killers to justice.” The McMichaels are charged with murder and aggravated assault in Arbery’s death, but those arrests weren’t made until after the video surfaced.

They have told investigators they thought Arbery was burglarizing a home under construction in the Satilla Shores neighborhood on the day of the shooting.

Meanwhile, an attorney for Arbery’s family said during an interview on CNN Monday night that they want Bryan arrested despite his attorney’s claim that he was not involved in the death.

“We are going to continue to push for the arrest of William Bryan for recording and participating in the ambush of Ahmaud Arbery,” S. Lee Merritt told CNN’s Don Lemon.

“His family deserves justice from not only the two men who have been arrested, but from anyone who participated in that act,” Merritt added.

Ministers 'must publish SAGE evidence on coronavirus immediately'

Ministers must publish SAGE evidence on coronavirus immediately, say MPs amid backlash over lockdown secrecy

  • Boris Johnson facing demands to publish SAGE evidence on coronavirus policy
  • Cross-party committee says papers underpinning decision should be released
  • Just 16 SAGE papers published earlier this week out of 90 on an official list
  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

An influential group of MPs today demanded Boris Johnson immediately publishes research papers underpinning crucial coronavirus decisions.

The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee called for greater transparency on the material considered by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies.

Chairman and Tory MP William Wragg also urged a change in the law to enforce mandatory recording of deaths within 24 hours, to improve tracking of the outbreak.

Documents considered by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) are periodically made public, but there is a long delay.

The scientific papers underlying the advice are also not routinely released, despite many of the experts suggesting they should.

Some of the SAGE documents released earlier this month included heavily redacted pages, including one on how to relax lockdown measures

According to a Government-supplied list more than 90 that remain secret after 16 were revealed today

After his committee took evidence from national statistician Professor Sir Ian Diamond, Mr Wragg said Parliament needs to see the data so they can scrutinise Government decisions.

‘The national statistician, who attends Sage, told us that he believes Government should publish the papers discussed by Sage,’ Mr Wragg wrote to the PM.

‘I am writing to ask you to start publishing those papers immediately.

‘If for any reasons you are unable to publish a paper, I would like you to write outlining what the paper contains and why it cannot be published.’

Earlier this month SAGE published another trance of papers along with the names of most of its members.

But according to a Government-supplied list it left more than 90 that remain secret.

They include advice for ministers on stopping flights from certain countries, on when to stop contact tracing, and another on the impact of school closures.

The list also includes unpublished documents on the use of face masks, the risk of pets passing on the virus, and advice on restricting flights from specific countries.

These are all highly contentious issues as the death toll mounts and the Government seeks a way out of the current lockdown.

Additionally, some of the documents released previously included heavily redacted pages, including one on how to relax lockdown measures.

Chairman and Tory MP William Wragg wrote to Mr Johnson (right) to demand more transparency over SAGE evidence

Ne-Yo Credits Coronavirus Quarantine for Saving His Marriage to Crystal Smith After Split

In an interview with Chicago’s Kendra G, the ‘Miss Independent’ singer reveals how being locked up in home makes him re-evaluate the important relationships in his life and brings his family back together.

AceShowbizNe-Yo and his wife Crystal Smith are patching things up, thanks to the coronavirus quarantine. The Grammy Award-winning musician, who confirmed his split from his wife of four years in February, has been self-isolating with his family, including Crystal and now he has confirmed that he’s back together with his wife.

In an interview with Chicago’s Kendra G, Ne-Yo opened up how the current COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders made his re-evaluate the important relationships in his life. “I’ll say this. When you’re faced with a pandemic and you see people dying daily, a bunch of people dying all the time. It really puts things into perspective for you. Like, who’s there for you regardless of whatever,” he shared.

“And I’m not talking love. Love is compartmentalized a lot of the times. I’m talking unconditional love,” he explained. “That’s the love that means I don’t give a damn. Rich, poor, famous, don’t nobody know you. Don’t nobody like you. I don’t give a damn, I love you. I have a handful of people like that on the face of the planet.”

The 40-year-old artist went on divulging how the current situation changed his perspective as saying, “So when this thing went down and all of a sudden it was like hey, it’s not safe to be outside, I said to myself, ‘Ok, if I got to be inside, I want to be inside with people that I know love me beyond a shadow of a doubt.’ “

Ne-Yo also addressed his song “Pinky Ring”, which was released after his split from Crystal. Though there was a speculation that it was aimed at his then-estranged wife, the singer/songwriter had insisted that it was not a diss track.

And he repeated it in the interview, claiming, “And regardless of what me and Crystal was going through at the time, never did I ever say that I didn’t love her. That never ever happened. I never had anything negative to say about her. Even if you listen to the ‘Pinky Ring’ song, it ain’t a diss record. I didn’t say anything foul about her through the whole song. It was just a record about what I was going through at the time and how I chose to deal with it. How I chose to view it or face it or whatever the case may be.”

“So when I came home. I came home to the people that I love and that’s everybody that I love. That’s my mother, my sister, my four children and my wife. So here we are,” he went on concluding about his current relationship status and quarantine situation.
