Alex Beresford could ditch GMB after Piers Morgan row makes him a star in US
Alex Beresford has been inundated with messages from huge Hollywood celebrities after he dared to call out Piers Morgan for his comments about Meghan Markle on Good Morning Britain last week.
The on-air row led to Piers, 55, storming out of the studio, and Alex calling the presenter’s behaviour "diabolical".
The next day, the Life Stories presenter proceeded to step down from his role on the show.
Piers refused to apologise for his comments saying he didn’t "believe" the Duchess of Sussex when she told Oprah Winfrey she’d suffered with suicidal thoughts and that the royal family’s "firm" told her they couldn’t help.
The unexpected American popularity overnight is said to have been an exciting and welcome twist for 40-year-old Alex, who joined the ITV daytime show in 2014.
The weather man currently provides cover for main weather reporter Laura Tobin, and has a long-running rivalry with former host Piers.
But as the news was flooded with reactions to Prince Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with US chat show host Oprah, Alex found himself catapulted into the limelight.
The clip of his row with Piers went viral, and the star was the centre of various articles in US publications.
According to reports, Alex has also received a number of offers to appear on shows in America as well on the radio.
The Sun also alleged that Alex has been approached to write his own book.
"He sees this as his chance to be a global star – he was featured on the Wendy Williams show and has featured extensively in the New York Times and LA Times," an insider told the publication.
"Alex has been so overwhelmed by the support he had to have a few days off work and he’s currently exploring all of his options."

Even Oprah, who was spotted following the daytime TV star on Twitter, has reportedly gotten in contact with the reporter.
The source went on to claim Alex has received reams of messages in support of his decision to stand up to Piers Morgan.
The insider also told The Sun that Beyoncé’s mum Tina has been in touch too.

"He has since told his agent Jonathan Shalit he wants to crack America, and is adamant he won’t be on breakfast TV or be the weatherman on GMB for the rest of his life.
"He’s had loads of celebs, call to congratulate him, and there have been A-listers who’ve even reached out which is really flattering," the source added.
Before he joined GMB, Alex was presenting the weather on ITV since 2007.
GMB continues tomorrow at 6am on ITV.
