Ashley Banjo scolds John Barrowman for ‘harsh’ Rebekah remark on Dancing on Ice

Dancing on Ice judge Ashley Banjo told off his co-star John Barrowman for his "harsh" comment towards contestant Rebekah Vardy after she performed with Andy Buchanan on Sunday.

Rebekah performed Let's Face the Music from Follow the Fleet before standing before the judges to get their feedback.

The pair managed to snag a score of 25 from the four judges, but that didn't stop the panel from giving out some criticism for the star.

Chris said that he was happy that there was more skating and less "power lifting" from Andy, as both he and Ashley said she needed to work on her presentation.

Whilst the judgement was mostly positive, John was swiftly scolded by Ashley as he branded Rebekah's performance "stale".

John said: "There were some nice things in there, I gave you the same mark as last week because for me, performance wise, it was a bit stale."

Ashley quickly jumped in: "That was harsh," but John seemed unrepentant as he pulled a face whilst Rebekah took the comment on the chin.

John continued: "There was a lot of smiling, and I want you to be so good, and you need to work on the legs, the hands, the extension, don't just copy the moves."

Viewers quickly rushed to defend Rebekah, as one posted: "Bit harsh John considering Rebecca doesn't perform for a living she has improved a lot in a week."

Another added: "John saying that Rebekah's performance was stale. Boy that was harsh. It wasn't that bad I thought it was fantastic Rebekah is a great skater."

A third defended John, saying: "'Ooh, that's harsh' – I mean…you literally sat on the same panel as Jason Gardiner. By comparison John Barrowman's comments are relatively kind!"

One fan thought Chris' comments were a bit strong, writing: "That was harsh Chris! Amusing but harsh!! Power lifting!"

Rebekah will have to wait and see if she has done enough to make it through to the fourth week of the show.

Dancing on Ice continues next Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
