Coronation Street spoilers: Asha Alahan ‘flees’ Weatherfield after devastating discovery

Asha (played by Tanisha Gorey) hasn’t had the easiest time on Coronation Street over the past year and it seems her troubles are only going to continue. With self-esteem issues at play and wanting to attract the attention of teenage boys, the youngster has been making changes to her body and doing what she thinks will keep them interested. However, when she makes a discovery about how a private exchange has ended up online, it’s likely she will end up leaving the ITV soap to escape the turmoil of her latest ordeal.

Last year, viewers saw Asha face a battle with her mental health as she wanted to lighten her skin following a trip to India.

It was months before anyone discovered what was going on before she finally confided in Amy Barlow (Elle Mullvaney) about her thoughts after the bleach she brought began to cause physical damage.

Since the beginning of this year, the teenager seems to have been on the road to recovery and has been enjoying a romance with classmate, Corey Brent (Maximus Evans).

Upcoming scenes will see him urge her to take their relationship to the next level, but she’s left heartbroken when their private messages end up online – will she run away as the backlash becomes too much to bear?

The drama kicks off when Amy invites Corey over to her house for a small party, but clocking the conversation from afar, Asha is left anxious with jealousy.

It doesn’t help when newcomer to Weatherfield High Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) suggests there’s more going on between the pair than meets the eye.

As the day of the party dawns, the schoolgirls get themselves dressed up and await the arrival of their other guests.

However, Dev Alanhan’s (Jimmi Harkishin) daughter drops a bombshell as she divulges to her friend she took explicit images of herself and sent them to her love interest.

Before Amy has a chance to reply to the revelation, Number One is then flooded with rowdy teenagers as details of the party ended up online.

New to the group, the straight-talking teenager believes Kelly is behind the trouble and when a lamp ends up getting smashed, she accuses the newcomer of causing damage.

Asha knows all too well it wasn’t her new friend who broke the ornament but stands by Corey’s version of events, even though he is the guilty party.

Wanting revenge, the new Weatherfield High student gets access to a phone containing the sexually explicit images of the teenager.

Kelly then shares the images on the party group chat and it’s not long before Asha becomes the centre of attention.

The teenager is further horrified when she and brother Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) are dragged away from the party by father, Dev.

Finally looking at her phone, the youngster discovers her sexually explicit images have been leaked on social media for everyone to see.

Knowing everyone will judge her for her actions, will she decide to pack her bags and flee Weatherfield to escape the cruel ridicule she will face?

Following the harrowing skin bleaching plot last year, actress Tanisha has opened up on her character’s latest storyline.

The young soap star said: “Her first feeling is that her life is ruined.

“It’s absolute despair, shock and disgrace. The fact that everyone at the party knew and had seen it before she did also hits hard.”

Scriptwriters have been working closely with charity NSPCC to portray the reality of the situation for so many teenagers like Asha, with the repercussions set to play out over the coming weeks.
