Emma (played by Alexandra Mardell) found herself in a spot of bother in recent scenes on Coronation Street as her deal with their Scott Emberton (Tom Roberts) finally came to light. With her conscience eating away at her, the youngster decided to go to the police and correct an earlier statement she had made about the armed robber. Originally, the barmaid claimed she knew nothing about the robbery at the bistro but told an officer in Wednesday night’s edition of the ITV soap she had been given £5,000 by the villain to help fund legal fees for a court case happening with her brother, Oliver Battersby (Emmanuel and Jeremiah Cheetham). This led to her subsequent arrest, but viewers were confused about how she made it home so quickly.

After being arrested for money laundering, the youngster was told she was going to be put into a cell until the authorities figured out how to proceed.

No more than a few minutes later, she walked into her father Steve McDonald’s (Simon Gregson) house after the day from hell.

Having regained control of her emotions, the barmaid told the soap stalwart she was going to be in court the next day for the charges brought against her.

Despite the punishment of a fine or community service, Emma was pleased her sins were now out in the open and she wouldn’t have to worry about being caught.

“Taking stolen cash and lying to the police, I am not cut out for it,” Oliver’s sister remarked with her father telling her she was “as good as gold.”

Taking to Twitter, viewers were convinced they had spotted a plot hole with regards to the timing of Emma’s arrest and subsequent release.

One viewer wrote on the social media platform: “I thought she was supposed to be in a cell? Do they think we don’t listen? #Corrie.”

Another added: “Emma got out quick #corrie,” with a third commenting: “#Corrie Hang on! Didn’t that copper say Emma was going to be taken to the cells?”

However, others just simply couldn’t believe the beloved character had been arrested as she is never one to put a foot wrong.

“Aw poor Emma…leave her alone! She’s too sweet for a cell #corrie,” a fourth wrote, with a fifth posting: “Emma wouldn’t last 5 minutes in the clink #Corrie.”

A sixth remarked on the micro-blogging site: “Emma’s heart is in the right place, she’s a great person. #coronationstreet #corrie.”

Whilst a seventh shared: “Oh poor Emma, she’s too innocent. She’s only ever tried to do the right thing, bless her heart #corrie.”

An eight opined: “Omg my heart is breaking for Emma #Corrie,” as a ninth added: “Emma being charged, that’s all Scott’s fault, not her’s #Corrie.”

Viewers will have to wait and see as to what the court decides is enough punishment for the youngster to receive for her crimes.

However, it’s safe to say she won’t be featuring in a stint behind bars as Emma will make an appearance in next week’s heartbreaking scenes.

With her father, Steve, in court to hear the verdict on his son’s survival, his daughter and loved ones will gather at Number One to wait for the news.

Unfortunately, it won’t be the result they had hoped for as the father-of-three is told the hospital will be taking Oliver off of life support.

Steve has become a rock for his daughter since he discovered he was her biological father last year and actress Alexandra has spoken out about what it’s like to work with co-star Simon.

The soap star said: “Some of the scenes are so emotional but Simon is so funny. One of my biggest challenges at the moment is trying not to laugh at him.

“As much as he is funny, he’s also a brilliant serious actor so we just get on with it. We’ve had some really lovely scenes together.”

Coronation Street continues Friday at 7:30pm on ITV.
