‘Counting On’: Derick Dillard Just Offered Fans an Honest Answer for Why the Duggars Marry Young

If you ever wondered why members of the Duggar family married so young, you are not alone. For years, Duggar family followers have questioned why the family’s children rushed down the aisle. Now, Derick Dillard has offered Instagram followers an answer to the question, and his honesty is about to break the internet.

Derick Dillard married Jill Duggar in 2014

Derick married into the Duggar family back in 2014, after being introduced to Jill Duggar by her father, Jim Bob Duggar. Since then, the pair have experienced a ton of changes. The couple welcomed two children and bought a home. Derick has also enrolled in law school and has been very public about his feud with Jim Bob.

Derick has also been more willing than any other Duggar in-law to speak openly about what goes on inside the supersized family. In the last 12 months, he has revealed that Jim Bob keeps all earnings from the family’s show and intervenes when a Duggar attempts to land a regular paying job. He also suggested he and his wife were blackmailed into continuing to film.

Derick Dillard admits the Duggars get married so young because “We want to have sex”

Jill recently shared a photo of her new nose ring, and while fans were pretty interested in her change in jewelry, Derick stole the show in the comments. One fan asked why Justin Duggar has chosen to get married so young. Derick quickly chimed in to answer the question. He told the fan that members of the family marry so young because they “want to have sex.”

He left the comment section shortly after, but family followers jumped all over his assertion. Derick appeared to confirm what family critics had long suspected. Jill later chimed in to get in on the fun, claiming that Derick was officially more popular on her Instagram than her.

If all goes as planned, Justin Duggar will be the youngest Duggar to marry

While Derick insists the family gets married young because they want to have a physical relationship, some get to the altar quicker than others. Followers were concerned that Joy-Anna Duggar was too young when she married Austin Forsyth back in 2017. She was just shy of her 20th birthday. There is one Duggar who will be even younger than that when he says, “I Do.”

Back in September 2020, Justin shocked fans by announcing a courtship before he even turned 18. It wasn’t the only surprise Justin had up his sleeve, though. Justin turned 18 in November 2020 and announced his engagement to Claire Spivey the following day. It’s unknown when the pair will tie the knot, but it seems like Justin will marry long before he turns 19 if they follow the same timeline as the rest of the Duggar family.
