Death In Paradise viewers were devastated when the BBC announced Ruby Patterson (played by Shyko Amos) would not be returning to Saint Marie police force. The bubbly officer has been helping solve crimes for two years but actress Shyko has now revealed why she will be hanging up her uniform.

It was announced last week that Shyko would not be reprising her role as Ruby.

A statement released revealed: “After two series bringing law, order, and joy to the streets of Saint Marie, we’re sad to say goodbye to Ruby Patterson who made such a massive impact in such a short time!

“DS Madeleine Dumas will also be departing Saint Marie’s sunny shores and we would like to thank Shyko Amos and Aude Legastelois-Bidé for bringing Ruby and Madeleine to life and wish them all the very best for the future.”

Speaking on her YouTube channel today, the actress admitted she read all of the comments about her character Ruby online and agreed at times the police officer could be “annoying’.

However, she thanked fans for getting behind her as she remarked: “It was really nerve-wracking before coming after Danny [John Jules].

“It was my first big job, I didn’t know what I was doing really on screen in that way. Obviously I had acting skills.

“Funnily enough I am not a comedian, I am actually an actress I just so happen to be a bit funny.

“Maybe the next thing you’ll see me in I’ll be killing someone or just being all sad.”
