EastEnders' Jake Wood confirms if Max will die in exit story

Jake Wood has teased some exciting news about his exit from EastEnders, confirming that Max Branning will not be killed off. 

The soap star will depart Albert Square in February after 15 years of playing the former car salesman, leaving longtime viewers heartbroken. 

However it might not be the last they’ll see of Max, who will be given an open exit for the possibility of his return. 

During his appearance on Good Morning Britain, Jake said: ‘One of the security guys when I drove in last week said, “Sorry you’re leaving are you going in a cab or a coffin?”’ 

When Piers asked if he knew how his character leaves the soap, Jake said it would be via cab and added: ‘I do, it’s not going to be a cab exactly but they’re leaving the door open so I’m pleased.’ 

The TV star then confirmed he had about two weeks left of filming with his final scenes set to air mid-February 2021. 

After Piers listed his biggest storylines from affairs to deaths, Jake then joked: ‘I think far more traumatic moment of all of that was when [Max] shared a hot tub with Ian Beale.’ 

It comes after Jake’s former co-star Lorna Fitzgerald, who played his daughter Abi Branning, said she was looking forward to seeing his exit. 

‘I’m really excited to see Jake’s departure as well as Max because I’m just intrigued like, what’s gonna happen?’ she told Metro.co.uk. 

‘It’s quite nice being a fan and not knowing what’s gonna happen,’ Lorna said. ‘You find out in real time with everyone else.’ 

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV. 

EastEnders airs weeknights on BBC One.
